| This practice report is based on Nature Positive Travel & Tourism published by the World Wide Fund for Nature in September 2022.The text is divided into six chapters:Introduction,the importance of nature,nature and travel & tourism,nature positive commitment business survey,a nature positive roadmap for travel & tourism and recommendations.The source text is characterized by a large number of long and complex sentences,highly specialized terms and a strong logical connection.Newmark’s communicative translation theory takes the reader as the center,the communicative effect as the goal,and the function of the text as the basis for choosing appropriate translation methods for a specific text,aiming at improving the readability of the translation and giving the reader a fluent reading experience.This translation practice report therefore uses Newmark’s theory as the theoretical foundation.Under the guidance of Newmark’s theory,and with the principle of achieving communicative goals and conveying information with precision,the translator presents a number of examples in Chapter 4.The specific application of Newmark’s theory to the translation is explored at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The use of literal translation with annotation and interpretative translation enhances the communicative effect at the lexical level and conveys information effectively and fluently.The communicative function is maximized through the use of recasting or splitting sentences.The coherence of the translated text is reinforced by means of restoration of pronouns.In short,according to Newmark’s elaboration on communicative translation theory,the translator has reduced the comprehension barriers brought by linguistic and cultural differences to readers in the translation process,improved the readability of the translated text,and achieved the communicative function of the text to some extent.This translation practice selects appropriate approaches to the translation of terms,ambiguous words and long and complex sentences to maximize the communicative effect of the text. |
