Abstract/Summary:
Since the Industrial Revolution, technology has developed rapidly, and people have gradually paid more attention to their own privacy protection issues in the era of big data. The translation report is based on the translation from English to Chinese of an excerpt of the book entitled I Have Nothing To Hide published in 2021.The author of the book is from the United States. The book mainly discusses and analyzes the current situation in the United States, focusing on how people can protect their privacy and security under the surveillance of the government and enterprises in the era of big data. This translation report selects the first four myths in the first chapter of the source text for translation.According to Newmark’s classification of text types, the text belongs to the informative text, which focuses on accurately conveying the information in the book.In the translation process, the translator finds there are many technical terms, cultural terms, passive sentences and long sentences in the source text.In view of that,to guarantee the high quality of the translation, the translator attempts to make the translation faithful to the original message, readable to the target readers and stylistically refined for the target text under the guidance of communicative translation theory. To achieve these goals, the translator properly applies translation techniques such as annotation, addition, division, lexical transformation and allusion to achieve a better translation effect when translating the informative text.Hopefully, this report can be beneficial for translators who need to translate informative texts in the future.
