The Chinese water culture is glorious and splendid, and the people of Central Plains not only gave birth to the creation of Chinese material civilization but also contributed to the creation of political and spiritual civilization in the process of fighting against flood. In this context, the translator chooses to translate a text related to the water culture of Central Plains, which is Chapter Eight Water Culture in the Central Plains of Introduction to Central Plains Culture. On the one hand,it aligns with the unique characteristics of our university’s majors, and on the other hand,it adheres to the strategy of Henan Province to share and spread the culture of the Yellow River. The selected material for this translation practice is an informative text with the main purpose of conveying the same concepts and information as the original text does,in a way that is easy for readers to understand.Communicative translation theory emphasizes conveying information based on the expression habits of the target language, rather than attempting to faithfully reproduce the original text.In the translation process, the translator has greater freedom to manipulate the original text with the target readers in mind, with a focus on form and expression. Therefore, the translator ultimately chose “communicative translation theory” as a guide for this translation practice. In this report,at the lexical level, the translator adopts the strategies of literal translation or liberal translation for culture-loaded words and terminology, which makes the translation more fluent and easier for the target language readers to understand the Central Plains culture. And at the syntactic level, the translator adopts the strategies of reorganization and literal translation for parallelism and metaphor to ensure that the information conveyed in the translation is clear, comprehensible, and easily accessible to readers. With the help of these strategies and methods, the translator hopes that the information of the source language text can be effectively transmitted.Guided by communicative translation theory, effective translation methods were used to make the translation fluent, and to effectively convey information from the source text.Furthermore, this translation practice is of great significance in sharing the story of the Yellow River, promoting the external dissemination of the Yellow River culture, and promoting the Central Plains culture “going global”.
