Culture is an important part of soft power for a nation.Central Plains culture is the root of Chinese civilization. Therefore,to introduce Central Plains culture to foreign readers via translation will strengthen cultural communication between Central Plains and outside world and effectively promote Chinese culture to the world. For this purpose, the translator chose Interpretation of Central Plains Culture as the source text of her translation project.Meanwhile, the translator hopes that this translation practice and what is discussed in this report can provide some useful references for the translation of the informative text containing rich cultural elements. This translation report consists of four chapters which are task description, translation process, case analysis and summary.Chapter One includes the introduction to the translation background, the source text and the significance of the task.Chapter Two introduces the preparation for translation, the difficulties in the translation practice and the review after translation.Chapter Three is case analysis.Through detailed translation examples,it demonstrates how the translator, under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, has tackled the difficulties of translating culture-loaded words and long sentences to achieve lexical and syntactic equivalence between the source and target texts.By analyzing the cultural differences between Chinese and English, the translator has adopted different methods to deal with the culture-loaded words and long sentences in the translation practice. And Chapter Four summarizes the gains in this translation practice, the existing problems and possible improvements in the future.
