A Report On E-C Translation Of Mycorrhizal Dynamics In Ecological Systems (Excerpts)

In recent years,more attention has been paid to the study of the ecological environment.In order to deeply understand,protect and restore the natural ecosystem,and realize the harmonious coexistence between human and nature,humans have been researching every section of the ecosystem.They have found that mycorrhizas are important parts of the ecosystem.Proper use of mycorrhizas can promote sustainable development of ecology.The book,Mycorrhizal Dynamics in Ecological Systems combines the latest researches and the author’s researches over the past 5 decades to detail the changes and characteristics of mycorrhizas in different environments.Then the author describes applications of these studies to different fields of ecological restoration and puts forward some feasible strategies.Therefore,it is necessary to translate this book so as to gain a knowledge of the latest research of mycorrhizas.The translator selected this book as the source text of the translation project.Through the translation of Chapter 9 and 11 and the application of Newmark’s theory of Communicative Translation,this report focuses on the issues that need to be taken into account in English-Chinese translation of ecologically academic texts.There are many proper nouns or terms in this book and the sentence patterns are complex.According to Newmark’s classification of texts,the book is an informative text.Thus,the translation of this book under the guidance of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory can not only maintain the authenticity of information transmission,but also ensure that the sentences are easy to understand and readable,so that the translated texts can achieve the same effect as the source text.Guided by Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,this report makes a specific analysis of translation cases from lexical and syntactic level.Firstly,at lexical level,the translator adopted translation skills such as amplification,zero translation,annotation,class shift and extension to make the translation more fluent,authentic and easy to be understood.Secondly,at syntactic level,in order to cater to the reading needs of the target language readers,addition,adjustment of sentence order,division,combination,omission,voice conversion and paraphrase were used.By applying Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory to the translation of ecological texts,the understanding of the difficulties and strategies in the English-Chinese translation of ecological texts can be deepened.It can also provide reference for domestic translation practices of ecological texts.
