With the continuous progress of medical technology, domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies are making great efforts to develop new drugs.Drug research and development(R&D)is characterized by long cycle, high cost, high risk and high return.Nowadays, medical exchanges at home and abroad are becoming increasingly frequent. As an important carrier of drug R&D achievements, medical literature has become a bridge connecting medical researchers from all over the world.Therefore,high-quality translation of cutting-edge pharmaceutical research literature not only provides an important reference for practitioners in the pharmaceutical industry, but also promotes the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry. This report takes four medical papers related to the anti-tumor drug brentuximab vedotin as translation material to explore the the application of the Skopos theory to E-C translation of medical texts. This report is divided into five parts, including the introduction to the translation task, description of the translation process, overview of the Skopos theory, case study and conclusion, which focuses on the analysis of common difficulties when translating medical texts, and shows how to improve the translation quality by selecting appropriate translation techniques. At lexical level, for medical terms with relatively fixed meanings, accurate translations can be determined by searching official websites and parallel texts;for semi-technical terms with variable meanings, the most appropriate translation is chosen by combining background knowledge and context. At syntactic level, for the translation of passive sentences, the translator should choose whether to switch the voice according to the differences between English and Chinese expressions;for the translation of long and complicated sentences, translation techniques such as addition, liner translation, reverse translation and splitting translation can be used to improve the readability of the target text.At textual level, according to the logical thinking in Chinese, the translator can choose to retain or change the cohesive means of the original English text to enhance the coherence of the translation. In a word, the purpose of translation determines the specific translation techniques and all translation techniques are aimed at accurately conveying the information related to drug research. The research shows that the Skopos theory can guide E-C translation of medical texts effectively. The translator combines theory and practice to achieve a translation with relatively high readability and strong professionalism, hoping to provide some reference for practitioners in related industries and anyone who engages in medical translation.
