| Curriculum Ideological and Political Education is a comprehensive educational concept.Integrating Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into subject teaching can effectively promote the development of students’ ideological and political consciousness,and can increase students’ national self-esteem,pride and cultivate their national identity.The essence of English education at junior high school is also covered with ideological and political education for students.Therefore,integrating Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into junior high school English classroom is of great significance to students’ growth and teachers’ improvement of their own comprehensive quality.This study investigates current situations of the integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into junior high school English teaching through questionnaire survey and interview method,and identifies the problems,analyzes the causes of the problems,and explores some effective measures to promote the integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into junior high school English teaching.Based on this,this study designed three research questions: 1.What are students’ and teachers’ general understanding on integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into English teaching in junior high schools ? 2.What specific approaches do English teachers use to integrate Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into English teaching in junior high schools ? 3.What effects does integrating Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into English teaching have on junior high schools students’ affective attitudes and values?This study selected 250 grade eight students of a middle school in Tianjin to receive the survey.231 grade eight students received the questionnaire survey.217 valid questionnaire were collected.This study randomly selected 12 students and 4teachers to conduct the interview,through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview results,this study came to these conclusions: 1.Most students understand and support the integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education,believe that Curriculum Ideological and Political Education is related to patriotic education and other aspects of education.Some students believe that Curriculum Ideological and Political Education is related to the formation of their own values and other aspects of their own lives.Most teachers consider the integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education as moral education.2.Many teachers use module themes to educate students about ideology and polity in conjunction with text content.Most teachers use the modeling method and lead by example to subconsciously integrate Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into the classroom.A few teachers can integrate current political issues and Curriculum Ideological and Political Education together.A few teachers can organize output-based activities in class that could test students’ learning outcomes,such as red-themed bilingual movie appreciation and presentations on sharing stories of revolutionary ancestors.3.In terms of students’ affective attitudes,Curriculum Ideological and Political Education makes most students love life more and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature.It enables a few students to realize the importance of social responsibility and deepen their sense of national identity.Through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview results,this study found that the current problems of integrating Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into junior high school English teaching are: 1.Teachers failed to integrate current political hot issues with Curriculum Ideological and Political Education,lacked understanding of the political perspective on it.Students are unable to combine Curriculum Ideological and Political Education with real life.2.The teaching methods that teachers integrate into Curriculum Ideological and Political Education are relatively single,failing to meet the actual needs of students’ learning and lacking the test of students’ civics learning outcomes.3.The influence of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education on students’ affective attitudes and values is formal and superficial.In view of the above problems,this study analyzes the causes of the problems,and with the causes of the problems,puts forward some suggestions to promote the full integration of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education into junior high school English classrooms: 1.Teachers should improve their own political theory,enrich their political knowledge about current affairs and hot issues,and influence students by example.2.Schools should conduct regular training for teachers about Curriculum Ideological and Political Education.Teachers should enrich teaching methods and improve the classroom evaluation process.3.Teachers should perceive the deeper connotation of civics element and give full play to the influence of Curriculum Ideological and Political Education on students’ affective attitudes and values. |
