A Report On The E-C Translation Of The WWDR2022(Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of The Eco-Translatology

As the economy continues to develop and the exchange of science and technology between countries around the world becomes more frequent,translation activities in this area also emerge.In this context,the source text of this translation practice report is taken from Chapters 3 and 5 of the UN World Water Development Report 2022 published by UNESCO,which focuses on the development and use of groundwater globally,as well as the problems and solutions.This report focuses on the ecological environment of translation and the theory of "translation adaptation and selection",takes "three-dimensional" transformation as the main translation strategy,and analyzes vocabulary and syntax from three aspects: linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,and communicative dimension.The linguistic characteristics of the source text are: firstly,it likes to use long sentences;secondly,there are many technical terms;thirdly,it tends to use the passive voice and absolute construction.In view of these linguistic characteristics,the translator adopted different translation methods and skills to translate the source text based on the three-dimensional transformation method.At the linguistic level,the translator analyzed the source text from passive voice,conversion,absolute construction,and sentence structure adjustment,etc;at the cultural level,the translator must have an in-depth knowledge of the cultural background and differences in the socio-economic environment of each country,and adopted translation skills such as annotation to reduce the reading barriers of the target readers;at the communicative level,in view of the differences in Chinese-English expression habits,the translator adopted literal translation and free translation,addition and omission,and division and combination to achieve good communicative effects.Finally,the translator hopes that the practice report will serve as a reference for future studies on the translation of water development reports in China,thus providing a better understanding of the situation of the world’s water resources.
