" Declaring War on the Ocean," a huge creation co-created by 60 teachers and students of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1960,has repeatedly appeared in public view as the protagonist of thematic exhibitions in recent years.However,there are still many shortcomings in the academic community’s attention and research on it.The grand and spectacular construction scene in the painting shows the world-wide pioneering work-sea blocking project in Zhanjiang,Guangdong in the 1950 s.The construction of the works in the 1950 s and the connection between the teachers and students of the Department of Cantonese Painting and the project are the central issues discussed in this paper.Through the method of literature collection,this paper sorts out the ’ May 4th ’ cultural movement,the policy of literature and art in Yan ’ an period and the policy of literature and art in the 1950 s of new China,and analyzes the era context of the creation of ’ declaring war on the sea ’.At the same time,the artistic ideas of Guan Shanyue and Li Xiongcai and the teaching concept of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts were explored,and the relationship between the two and Zhanjiang sea blocking project was analyzed.Through the comparison of the expression characteristics of ’ group portrait ’ characters in literature,films and paintings of the same period,the expression of the hero group of workers,peasants and soldiers in Zhanjiang sea blocking project in ’ declaring war on the sea ’ is analyzed.Is a weakening of the individual,emphasizing the collective group like expression.Starting from the ancient connotation of ’ wonders ’,combing the construction wonders of the 1950 s.Through image analysis,the composition,pen and ink,image selection and arrangement,and color of the works of ’ declaring war on the ocean ’ are analyzed to reveal the expression of the grand artificial wonders.
