| At the beginning of the Republic of China,pictorials were one of the most popular media.Pictorials often published a large number of photos and pictures to record the social scene at that time.This thesis selects the group photos on the pictorial as the research object,trying to unfold multiple interpretations of the visual and cultural significance of the photos.The group photo is not only the preservation of the collective image,but also the display of the national image and national style.Therefore,my thesis mainly focuses on the collective image shaping and the national image shaping angle,discussing the self-image writing of the people in the early Republic of China and the writing of the national image.This thesis is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the social development background of photography and photographs in the late Qing Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty by discussing the introduction and development of photography technology and printing technology in China.The second part mainly focuses on the group photos in the pictorial,and divides the group photos into four types according to the subject matter.The third part discusses the collective image presented by the group photo and its significance to the collective.The fourth part looks at the reshaping role played by the group photos from the shaping of the national image,trying to explore the relationship between the group photos in the newspapers and the nation-state during the Republic of China.The fifth part summarizes the difference between national image and collective image and the relationship between them,then lists the different ways of shaping the image of group photos,and examines the inspiration of photos in the visual age from the perspective of national image shapingAll in all,the group photo is a presentation of history and humanity,as well as a concentrated expression of photography style and public aesthetics.Group photos expand their cultural connotations with the help of the mass media of newspapers and periodicals,and then extend the breadth and depth of public space and social memory,and become a visual symbol for citizens to participate in the nation’s national imagination. |
