Translation Problems And Solutions Of Long Sentences In Chinese Translation Of Legal Texts

legal text has different characteristics from other texts,with unique style and more standardization and rigor.The translation of long sentences and the handling of problems are often the focus of the translation process.Based on this background,this paper selects Smith& Roberson’s Business Law,an American business law textbook,as a translation practice text,and conducts specific analysis by exploring the various characteristics of long sentences in it and the translation problems arising from its translation,and finally summarizes the translation methods and strategies.Through translating the original text,this translation report summarizes the translation problems related to long sentences in Smith & Roberson’s Business Law and conducts specific analysis,discussing the translation problems from three aspects: complex non-predicate structure,complex subordinate structure within the sentence,and obscure logic within the sentence,and further analyzes the translation problems of long sentences based on these types of structures The problems include: complex noun non-predicate structure and adjective non-predicate structure,complex noun subordinate structure and complex adjective subordinate structure,lack of relational words leading to logical obscurity and complex referential relations leading to logical obscurity.For the above translation problems,after repeatedly revising the translation and adjusting the syntax,combined with the grammatical rules and semantic expressions of Chinese,this paper concludes that the solutions are:conversion translation for complex adverbial and adjectival non-predicate structures,sequencing translation for complex noun subordination and adjectival subordination structures,and additional translation for the lack of relational words leading to logical obscurity and complex reference relations.There are several types of solutions.The above solutions for long sentences in legal texts can make the translation smooth and easy to understand,and improve the readability of the translation.It is hoped that the analysis results of this translation practice can provide some reference for long sentences translation of similar texts.
