Problems And Solutions Of Translating Long English Sentences

Long English sentences have complicated structure and semantic logic,which causes difficulties for the understanding and translation of English text.So the long English sentences have been the focus in translation field.Against this background,based on the translation practice of Identity and Translation Trouble,this paper explores the different characteristics of long sentences structure and translation difficulties in the practice,and then finds solutions in translation of long English sentences into Chinese.By perusing the text,this paper summarizes the structures of long sentences which are mainly divided into non-predicate structure,subordinate structure and juxtaposition structure.Based on the concrete examples,each of the types of these long sentence structures are further subdivided into two classes: nominal and adjective non-predicate structures,nominal and adjective subordinate structures,embedded and non-embedded juxtaposition structures.Based on the translation practice,this paper further analyzes the translation problems of long sentences,including nominal and adjective non-predicate structure with complicated constituents,nominal and adjective subordinate structure with complicated forms,embedded and non-embedded juxtaposition structure with complicated constituents and forms.Through the repeat translation,modification and adjustment in translation process,according to the Chinese grammar rules and expressions,this paper puts forward targeted methods: conversion method for non-predicate structure,reordering method for subordinate structure and restructuring method for juxtaposition structure.Then many representative examples are selected to analyze the process of solving the translation problems above.The above translation problems and solutions of long sentences structure of this text are the core content in this paper.It is hoped that the analysis results of this translation practice can provide some reference for long sentences translation of similar texts.
