A Study Of Song Dynasty Zhiyu

As a unique literary genre in the Song Dynasty,the value and status of the Zhiyu have been neglected by the academic community.In the feast life of the Song Dynasty,Zhiyu was an indispensable existence.In the court banquets,it was used for national feasts and ceremonial banquets for foreign guests.On the one hand,it was used as an embellishment in the banquets of major national festivals to please the emperor and entertain the people;on the other hand,it was used as a diplomatic rhetoric to receive ambassadors and show the national prestige.In the banquet of officials and people,it was used for the farewell before assuming office and welcoming visitors and seeing them off.Zhiyu permeates every aspect of the life of the scholar.Therefore,this paper takes the Song dynasty’s Zhiyu as the object of study,starting from the conceptual analysis of Zhiyu,further exploring its application field and main ideas,and grasping the situation of Zhiyu in Song dynasty society from a macro perspective.At the same time,the paper conducts a case study of typical writers of Song dynasty Zhiyu,and grasps the achievements of Song dynasty Zhiyu,its shortcomings,and its influence on later literature from the microscopic and textual perspectives.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is an analysis of the concept of Zhiyu and its creation in the Song Dynasty.Zhiyu was originally a part of the fixed formula of Yueyu,but as the application field moved down,it gradually evolved into a general term of opening Zhiyu and Kouhao.The author combed through Quan Song Wen,general collections and an anthology of an auhthor’s works of the Song Dynasty,and found a total of 433 essays on the Song Dynasty.These essays were mainly used in court banquets and banquets for officials and citizens,with Hanlin bachelors being the main authors of court banquets and officials and citizens banquets being open to all talented people.The formula of Zhiyu was four parts: pointing out the theme,praising for a person,the introduction to the event,and the presentation of the poem.In the feast life of the Song people,Zhiyu played the role of clarifying the theme of the banquet and deepening the friendship between the guests and the hosts.The second chapter is about the application field and ideological content of the Song Dynasty Zhiyu.The fields of application of Zhiyu were the court banquest and the banquets for officials and citizens.The court banquets were hosted by the government,and had a complete performance system,and the main form was Jiaofang Yueyu.The language is graceful and elegant,with a soothing style and ornate words.The main idea is to expect the emperor to have the virtue of Yao and Shun,to implement good governance,to believe in the divine authority of the king and the unity of heaven and man,and to hope that the country will be stable and free from war.The banquet of officials and citizens was based on official social intercourse,and there is no complete system or complicated performance process,mainly for social intercourse between officials.There are three main ideas: respect for Confucianism,loyalty to the king and love for the people;high talent,poetry and wine;and outstanding political performance and ideal of officialdom.The third chapter is a case study of typical writers of Zhiyu.In the history of Zhiyu research,scholars’ studies summarized the general situation of Zhiyu from the macroscopic perspective,but in the creation,different creators have different creative characteristics.Su Shi’s composition is mainly reflected in three aspects: the two bodies and the complete structure;the chapter of praise and the satirical purpose,the antithetical parallelism and a natural style;Hong Shi’s composition is mainly reflected in three aspects: the strategy of the bureaucrats and the military life;the wisdom and courage,the virtue and talent;the truce and national unity;Shi Hao’s composition is reflected in the theme of the Ming officials and the neighbors and friends,and the portrayal of women.The fourth chapter is about the main drawbacks and later influences of the Zhiyu.Part of the reason why the complimentary language flourished in the Song dynasty but did not continue to do so was because of its shortcomings.The main disadvantages of Zhiyu are the three aspects of picking up the clichés,curing the program and showing off the skills.Its influence on later generations was mainly in the area of opera: on the one hand,it was a source of reference for the stylistic form of opera,and on the other hand,it contributed to the development of the nature of opera endorsement.
