Study On Hu Zhiyu

This article is a special study of Hu Zhiyu, who was a famous secretary of early Yuan Dynasty.Hu Zhiyu began from a student, then into Court, then up to province, to the third class of officials. Facing the time of Jin and Yuan in turn and worsening atmosphere of the society, he learnt Yi and Luo Xue hardly and became a jurisprudence.He has created a lot of literary works, which were in Zi Shan Works Vol.2. We can appreciate his thoughts, social intercourse and literary works from it.Introduction: General comment about Hu Zhiyu, pulling together all studies about him,from his lifetime, thoughts, literary works and so on, analy zing the focus and weak spots. On this basis, we start the study.Chapter One: Hu Zhiyu’s lifetime and thoughts. This chapter researches, from people and world, Hu Zhiyu’s lifetime, families to know the origin of knowledge and the influence of families, and his time of youth, his official career, unscrambling his thoughts. There are still some problems in his lifetime and families because of the error of documents. His early studying Yi Luo and his elderly “Reading Easy Home”, all the thoughts about these influenced greatly him as a man and learning. To know these problems, we can get the basis of studying Hu Zhiyu.Chapter Two: Hu Zhiyu’s social intercourse and mentality as a scholar. As a famous secretary of early Yuan Dynasty, Hu Zhiyu’s achievements were highly praised,and his《Zi Shan Works》received much attention of educational circles. But there were few comment about his social intercourse. This chapter states from three aspects: Hu Zhiyu’s scholastic activities “Dongping shogunate”, could show his official mentality;Hu Zhiyu’s scholastic activities with Jin adherents of a former dynasty and buddhist or Daoist priests, could know his reclusion mentality; From Hu Zhiyu’s scholastic activities with “Snow hall gathering ” scholars, we could know his literary mentality.Therefore, we could learn his mentality as a scholar and the influence of his literary works.Chapter Three: Hu Zhiyu’s drama theory and influence.This chapter states his drama from the following aspects; actors in poetry; the meaning and influence of “Nine beautiful drama theory”. Firstly, Hu Zhiyu rose drama education theory, from the view of “music is connected with political”, reflected vivid typical self-esteem raised the position of dramas. Secondly, the documents about actors of Yuan in his works also had values of drama historical data. At last, reinterpret the meaning of “Nine beautiful drama theory” from the historical data of 《Qing Lou Works》, which are in 《Zi Shan works》Vol.8 《Huang’s Summary of Poems》, to know the drama theory of Yuan Dynasty and the influence to Ming and Qing.Chapter Four: Hu Zhiyu’s poetry in the background of from words to music.Hu Zhiyu’s words to Song and Jin to broad-minded pose, influenced by Su Shi’s taking poem as words, and Xin Qiji’s taking article as words, and Yuan Hao Wen’s poems with words. In this course, Hu Zhiyu used the traditional view, took words as music,made a style of pure and nature. This chapter is to understand his aesthetic standard, to discuss the “taking words as music” again in Chinese ancient type of writing after the“taking poem as words”. And to know the work techniques and the influence to new Sanqu by traditional works.Chapter Five: Hu Zhiyu’s poems and articles. Generally speaking, Hu Zhiyu’s works and theory not only reflected the typical characteristics of north writers of early Yuan Dynasty, but also his bright specific character. Taking poems as example, this chapter selected ironical cryptic and painting for study, to know the meaning and specific character. In the background of “Tang to ancient times”, comparing Hu Zhiyu with famous men, in south and north, to know his poem theory. His essay was brightly influenced by Li Xue, reflected the specific character of use. Doing the classification to essays, to know the meaning and specific character, and the theory in eye of Li Xue.
