Study On Art Criticism And Ideas Of Northern Song Dynasty

As a milestone in the development of Chinese art history,Northern Song Dynasty with its Imperial Art Academy and literati that devoted to art criticism and practice and plenty of works on different issues of art,finally conceived the idea of literati painting.Study on ideas of art of Northern Song Dynasty,gives us a path to understand the meaning of fine art in ancient China.By comparing and analysing classification principles and practices of art among literati,scholars and the public,we could reorganize the characteristics of Northern Song Dynasty,and finally reveal its important position in the development of Chinese painting.Research have shown that paintings are widely used in politics,religious affairs and daily life in Northern Song Dynasty,and therefore,art reviews are fully developed in different classes.Publications of painters and scholars notified the sophistication of painting theory and technique in Northern Song Dynasty.At the same time the literati emphasized practicality and spiritual interest of paintings,and put forward the aesthetic tendency of “ideal”,which at last promoted the rise of the idea of literati painting.The improvement of the social status and cultural literacy of professional painters,as well as the gradual narrowing of the gap between the painter and the literati,deepened the interaction between the painter and the literati,and formed the characteristics of the diversity and integration of the paintings of the Northern Song Dynasty.The complexity and diversity of the ideas of fine art of Northern Song Dynasty,reflect the long-term and stability of the development of Chinese ancient painting theory,and changed the style and connotation of traditional Chinese paintings with its significance in inheriting the past and forming the future of history of Chinese painting.
