| The first three volumes of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(hereinafter referred to as Governance)is a representative publicity work of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government published by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration.Since its publication,the book has been highly praised by overseas readers around the world,which is of great value for promoting China’s international discourse right and building a solid community with a shared future for mankind.This dissertation studies the translation strategies of ancient Chinese poetry and prose quoted in Governance.Taking the Eco-translation theory of translation as adaptation and selection as the basis,this dissertation analyses the translational eco-environment of ancient Chinese poetry and prose cited in Governance from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.For the linguistic environment,the translators demonstrated the unique characteristics of Chinese by flexibly handling the differences between Chinese and English in the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and rhetoric.As for the cultural environment,the translators displayed the visions,concepts,values and moral norms of China’s finest traditional culture through translation,and successfully expressed the spiritual core of Chinese thinking to the international community.For the communication environment,the translators took a clear political stance and adopted an appropriate political perspective to interpret Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.On the basis of adapting to the translation eco-environment of linguistic,culture and communication,the translators flexibly chose translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation,amplification and omission,so that the translation can achieve the balance between political implication and culture connotation.According to the readership acceptance reflected in the questionnaire,the readers of foreign students have a high degree of acceptance to the translation of ancient Chinese poetry and prose cited in Governance,which indicates that the translation has a high degree of holistic adaptation and selection.The translation strategies adopted by the translators for the ancient Chinese poetry and prose cited in Governance are conducive to improving the international communication ability of Chinese,telling China’s stories well and spreading China’s voice effectively around the world. |
