Translation Of "and" And Its Coordinate Structures In IT English Under Conceptual Integration Theory

While the human society has entered the fourth industrial revolution,information technology(IT)has become a great productive force,with sci-tech achievements and breakthroughs constantly influencing the development of human civilization.It is in this context that the author has extracted about 20,000 words of effective sentences as research materials in about 160,000 words of data,aiming to study and summarize the translation skills of “and” and its coordinate structures in IT English.Under the guidance of Conceptual Integration Theory(CIT)by Fauconnier and Turner,this study tries to use contrastive analysis and hypothesis testing as methods and corpus as tool to build conceptual integration models in terms of “and” and its coordinate structures through the Four Mental Spaces in CIT.By deepening the translation process from a cognitive perspective,the author chooses some translation skills to resent the process of meaning construction.On the grounds of expression habits,prosody and language logic,three translation skills are employed on translation for “and” in IT English,including literal translation,omission and explicitation;combined with language hierarchy,scope and word order,two translation skills are applied on translation for “and” coordinate structures in IT English,including cutting and restructuring,and change of word order.Case analysis shows that CIT can better explain the cognitive process of translation,and appropriate translation skills under the guidance of CIT present better translations to target language readers.
