A Report On The Translation Of News From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

With the rapid development of globalization,news reports have been the main channel for we Chinese to learn about the outside world.Based on the author’s translation practice during her internship at China Daily,this report analyzes news translation work from the perspective of communicative translation theory,with the aim of sharing news reports from foreign media to Chinese readers,strengthening communication and dialogue between China and foreign countries,and promoting mutual comprehension and communication.The author selects a total of ten news reports to analyze.The articles are all sourced from major foreign mainstream news media websites,which clears the language barrier for Chinese readers of financial and economic news.By analyzing the textual characteristics and combining them with Peter Newmark’s classification of text types,the author determines that the original text belongs to informative text.Based on the text type,The author combines this framework with specific cases to assess the issues from three angles in order to suggest answers.The author employs Newmark’s communicative translation theory to guide the"comprehension","expression" and "adaptation" framework during the translation.Focusing on the feelings of target readers,the translator takes"communication" as the primary purpose and makes a full use of various translation techniques,such as addition,omission,and shift,to achieve the intended communicative function of the translation:to sufficiently consider the reading habits of the target readers in order to ensure the readability and acceptability;to reasonably take into account the principle of fidelity,and to strive to make the translation produces the same effect on the target readers as the original does on the original readers,so as to achieve the communicative purpose.In this translation practice report,the author analyzes translation techniques through specific cases,clarifies the key points and difficulties,and summarizes the experience and the shortcomings.For example,the author can’t clearly understand the original meaning when translating for the first time because of lacking experience in translating financial and economic news.The translator also hopes that this report can provide some reference for the translation work of financial and economic news texts in the future.
