On The Guiding Role Of The "Comprehension,Expression And Adaptation" Framework In Translation Of Media News English

This paper is an E-C translation practice report.The source text is excerpted from Journalism,Media,and Technology Trends and Predictions 2022 published by Reuters Institute of Oxford University,which reviews the development of journalism in 2021 and predicts the development trend of the industry in 2022.This text is both authoritative and forward-looking,and is an important benchmark for journalism practitioners and researchers.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the guiding role of the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" Framework(CEA Framework)proposed by Professor Li Changshuan in the E-C translation of media news texts,taking into account the practical problems that arise in the translation process.This paper first introduces the task of this translation practice and analyzes the CEA Framework.On this basis,the paper discusses the main problems encountered in translation by means of case studies,taking into account the characteristics of media news English and the difficulties in the process of E-C translation,respectively,from three aspects of this framework:the comprehension of media news industry knowledge;the expression of media news English style;and the adaptation of media news terminology translation.Through further research,it is found that the CEA framework,when applied for the E-C translation of media news English,should be focused on the following aspects.At the level of comprehension,attention should be paid to the writing background and industry knowledge of the source text to ensure the professionalism of the translation;at the level of expression,four-character patterns and idioms should be used to make the translation more readable while maintaining the concise and clear text style of media news English;at the level of adaptation,trade-offs in the translation of technical terms should be maintained in the text through such translation strategies as amplification and omission in light of the context.By using the CEA Framework,this translation practice report analyzes and solves the difficulties in E-C translation of news media English at these three levels.These results have certain reference value for the research on the role of the CEA Framework in translation practice and the E-C translation of media news English.It is hoped that this paper can provide some guidance and help for future translation and research of the same type of texts.
