| As the COVID-19 spreads in the world,the development and application of COVID-19 vaccine has become a hot topic.People often learn new things through news media and news translation has also developed into an important part of the field of translation.Therefore,based on Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory and on the corpus of several COVID-19 vaccine-related news reports selected from mainstream news websites of the United States,this report aims to study news translation strategies.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,this practice explores the methods and strategies for dealing with translation difficulties at lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,the translation of English idioms will reflect a difference in language and culture,so appropriate expressions should be selected,and if possible,Chinese four-character idioms can be considered as a comparison.The use of small words is common in English news,and the translation of them should pay attention to their functions.For the translation of polysemy,it is necessary to choose the meaning matching the collocation in the context.In terms of part of speech,since verbs are more commonly used in Chinese than in English,translation should focus on converting nouns,adjectives and prepositions into verbs.At the syntactic level,the translation of direct speech involves the combination of multiple direct speech and the conversion to indirect speech.In sentences with inanimate subject,its subject can be flexibly translated into the subject,verb or object.The translation of passive sentences can remain passive or be converted into active sentences.At the textual level,translation should restore textual cohesion as much as possible through substitution,conjunction,repetition and so on.Coherence is based on cohesion,which should be reasonable and logical in translation.This report takes the news reports related to COVID-19 vaccine as research object,which reflects the innovation of research corpus to some extent.Through translation practice and case study,this report not only has certain theoretical significance to promote the development of Communicative Translation Theory,but also discusses the practical methods and strategies of news translation. |
