| The selected text,The Sociologist’s Eye: Reflection on Social Life,is classified as social science text which covers multiple fields of social sciences,including history,literature,and philosophy,and focuses on specific social activities or phenomena,conducting in-depth explorations of their origins,development,current situation,laws,and influences.The characteristics of social science texts lie in their scientific rigor in professional knowledge and their literary beauty in language,with strong readability.The translator discovered that according to the language features,cultural information,and communicative functions of the selected text,the core concepts of eco-translatology applies to the translation of the source text,such as the translator centeredness and multi-dimensional adaptive selection.Guided by Hu Gengshen’s eco-translatology,translation practice based on the text features is feasible.The theory holds that translation involves selecting translation based on the inherent ecological structure of the source text,and adapting to the structure,ultimately reproducing it in the target language.Not only does it emphasize the process of translation,but it also emphasizes the translator centeredness.Therefore,based on the principle of “multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection”,the translator translated “Worlds Beyond”,the chapter 3 of the third part “Places” of The Sociologist’s Eye: Reflection on Social Life.In the course of the translation,the translator made efforts to repair,reconstruct,and improve the translation’s ecological environment,achieving balance and harmony between the original and the translated texts in terms of language,culture,and communicative ecology,resulting in a translation with a higher degree of integration and adaptability.At the same time,the translator studies and analyzes examples in this translation practice from the perspective of bilingual ecological balance,and finds that the translation of adaptive selection made in the three dimensions of language,culture and communication can better achieve the purpose of communication,which fully proves that eco-translatology has a certain guiding role in the translation of social science texts.The translation is expected to maximize the transmission of the connotation and spirit of the original text,and to provide some guidance and reference for the practice of translation and the study of cultural texts.Finally,the report concludes with a summary of the whole translation practice,its limitations,and some suggestions for future research. |
