| The source text for this translation practice is selected from The Spirit of Mourning:History,Memory and the Body written by Paul Connerton.Using mourning as a starting point,the book analyzes the processes by which memory is inscribed within human bodies and the various ways in which it is incorporated in institutions,histories and traditions,further demonstrating the cultural and collective nature of memory.Nominalization is highly general and therefore commonly found in scientific,technical,legal and humanities and social science texts.One of the biggest challenges in translating social science texts is the frequent use of nominalization in the source text.In order to achieve the ecological transformation of translation,Eco-translatology,a new translation theory developed in China in the 21stcentury,calls for the translator to adapt to the target context while taking the ecological context of the source text into consideration.It is realized to achieve the purpose of a fluent and natural translation.This requires the translator to follow the specific translation principles under this translation theory,namely The Three-Dimensional Transformations,to improve the quality of the translation through the adaptation of the linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.The translation practice report follows Eco-translatology and analyzes the translation of nominalization in the source text from the perspective of The Three-Dimensional Transformations of Eco-translatology.It also summarizes the translation strategies for nominalization with the goal of supplying some references for the subsequent translation researches on Eco-translatology and nominalization in social science texts.There are six chapters in the translation practice report.The translation task and its research relevance are introduced in the first chapter.The translation process is described in the second chapter from three perspectives:pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter defines,categorizes,and reviews the literature on nominalization as well as the late researches of it.A theoretical framework that contrasts the evolution of Eco-translatology and emphasizes The Three-Dimensional Transformations that directs this translation practice is presented in the forth chapter.The fifth chapter is a case study in which The Three-Dimensional Transformations of Eco-translatology is particularly applied to analyze the translation of verb nominalization,v-ing nominalization,to-infinitive nominalization,adjective nominalization and the nominalization of clauses in social science texts.literal translation,omission,amplification,conversion,transformation and division are a few of the translation strategies that can be used.The gains and limitations of this translation practice are outlined in the sixth chapter. |
