A Report On C-E Translation Practice Of Crystal-Clear Water And Lush Mountains:A Miao Ethnic Writer’s Trip To Guizhou’s Landscapes(Excerpts)from The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

In the context of vigorously promoting Chinese culture to go global,the rapid development of the translation of Chinese excellent literary works not only promotes Chinese culture,but also strengthens cultural exchanges between countries.Among many genres,prose is easy to understand and beautiful in language,which can better reflect the differences between Chinese and English languages.The translation of prose is an important way to promote Chinese-English language and cultural exchanges.In this translation practice,the prose Crystal-Clear Water and Lush Mountains: A Miao Ethnic Writer’s Trip to Guizhou’s Landscapes(hereinafter referred to as Crystal-Clear Water and Lush Mountains)written by Liu Yancheng,a Guizhou ethnic group writer,is selected as the translation material.The text describes the author’s travels in Guizhou from the first perspective.There are not only descriptions of beautiful landscapes,but also the author’s emotion expression and memories of the past.The language is beautiful and simple,and the content is real and moving.Adaptation Theory pays attention to the internal and external environment of the text,fully considers the language expression effects of both sides of the communication,and emphasizes the dynamic transformation of language.Guided by Adaptation Theory,this report systematically discusses how to apply the theory to this translation practice at three dimensions: structural objects of adaptability,contextual correlations of adaptability and dynamics of adaptability.Through practice,it is found that:(1)At the level of structural objects of adaptability,for the translation of poems’ rhymes,polysemy and rhetorical sentences,we can use free translation,literal translation,addition and division to solve the differences between Chinese and English language on surface structures,so as to realize the transformation of English and Chinese surface structures.(2)At the level of contextual correlations of adaptability,for the translation of redundant and missing information,breaking sentence structures and continuous verbs in the text,we can adopt addition,omission,conversion methods and free translation to deal with the contextual correlations in text,so as to take the language environment into consideration.(3)At the level of dynamics of adaptability,we can use literal translation + annotation,reversion and addition methods to solve tense transformation,word meaning changes and sentence order problems,so as to achieve dynamics of adaptability.To reproduce the effect of prose language,translator should not only adapt to the surface structure of the language,but also be able to get rid of the structural constraints,and strive to reproduce the beauty of prose,and then,pay attention to the effect of extratextual communication.Through the English translation of the travel prose text,it shows the feasibility of the Adaptation Theory in guiding the prose translation practice,and also promotes the dissemination of the beautiful scenery of Guizhou to a certain extent,enriching the diversity of international communications.
