The material chosen for this translation is Book One of the Australian non-fiction literary work Green Mountains whose author is Bernard O’reilly.Telling the story of the crash of the Stinson flight and subsequent events, this part focuses on the process of the author’s rescue of survivors.Non-fiction literature has the following characteristics: content authenticity, literary expression and narrative form, and there are many long sentences in the text. Therefore, the processing of long sentences and the translation of details, dialogue, mental activity and other descriptions are difficulties in this translation practice.Through the study of the non-fiction literary work and its translation, the translator discussed the difficulties in the three aspects of lexical, syntactic and stylistic level in the translation of the work and the corresponding translation methods under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Through this translation practice, the translator concluded as follows: the translation of non-fiction literary works focuses on conveying the true meaning of the source text,so that the readers of the target text and the source text will have similar feelings and have a better understanding of the source text.In terms of lexical level, the original meaning should be accurately conveyed.Real names and place names should be accurately translated, and the words that can’t be searched can use the method of transliteration. In terms of syntactic level, the translator should carefully search for relevant background knowledge according to the language habits of the target language readers to avoid mistranslation. In terms of discourse level,it is necessary to carefully analyze the source text, understand the paragraph layout and context. The translator should adjust the sentence order for readers to understand. In terms of stylistic level, the translator should try her best to restore the plot and character emotion of the real event scene, and also convey the language style of the original author.
