The source text of this translation practice is from Chapter eight and Chapter nine of the book Let There Be Water: Israel’s Solution for A Water-Starved World.For water shortage has become a global problem needed to be solved as soon as possible,Seth M.Siegel writes this book introducing how Israel uses advanced technology to solve the water problem in domestic successfully.In the meantime,author appeals that every country should take water shortage seriously and fix this problem by advanced technologies before it becomes crisis.This text belongs to common science and technology type,the language of which is easy to understand.The translator chooses this book as source text,expecting that people can know some advanced technologies in water field and improve water-saving awareness after reading her translation.During the translation,the translator meets following key and difficult points:accurate comprehension of the original text;proper nouns and special terms;long and complicated sentences;titles;sentences applied figures of speech.In order to accurately understand the original text,the translator looks up articles about Israeli water field by CNKI and Baidu before translation so as to have knowledge about this topic.This source text is related to water technologies,water companies and their products,so it contains lots of semi-technical terms,proper nouns and special terms.The translator finds correspond expressions of these nouns and terms by digital dictionaries and parallel texts.Some terms don’t have fixed expression in Chinese,and the translator uses transliteration to deal with this problem.In the original text,there are many long and complicated sentences.Therefore,the translator analyzes the sentence structures first.Then according to the certain sentence,the translator chooses the specific methods to deal with them including syntactic linearity,reframing sentence structures,syntactic transformation,turning phrase into clauses and so on.Title is the eye of the book,and the translator takes account of cultural differences,using free translation and four-word phrase to make translation version of title concise and readable.The author uses figures of speech in some sentences,and the translator applies literal translation and free translation to deal with them.Through this translation practice,the translator benefits a great deal.Firstly,translator should make enough pre-translation preparations.Secondly,translator should make full use of parallel texts to find out the equivalent and appropriate expressions of proper nouns and established forms.Thirdly,during the translation,translator should deal with the differences between English and Chinese by combining translation theories and methods so as to make translation fluent and authentic.At last,translator needs to polish the translation over and over again to check whether the translation is faithful and coherent.
