Focusing on this discussion,this paper will be divided into three parts,The first part will retrace the origins and development of the Mi Clan style and method,going back to its early roots deriving from the methods of Five Dynasty and early Northern Song painted the landscape of China ’ s southern region,and later their infusion of the personal characteristics and sentimrnt which made the Mi Clan painters.The second part will research the actutal painting techniques of this method,specially discussing techniques of using the brush and in ink to create washes of light layeres tone and the dotting and ‘cun’scraping technique used to create textures,siting these techniques inherent relationshio as part of a whole system.We will also highing some of distinctions between Mi Fu and his painting of mountains immersed in clouds and his son iteration.This analysis will utilize specific examples of their part works to do so.The third part will discuss the lineage and continued tradition of painters who later studied form or used the Mi Clan Method and it’s overall influence on the consecutive parts of Chinese painting’s historical development.We will note examples such as Yuan dynasty painter and scholar Dong Qi Chang and as well as the Qing dynasty painter Zha Shi Biao,whose use of the brush,with infiuence of the Mi Clan Method,can be used to form points of anaiysis in our discussion.
