A Report On Chinese Translation Of Translation And Multimodality:Beyond Words(Chapter 5 And Chapter 6)

Translation and Multimodality:Beyond Words is an anthology jointly edited by Monica Boria,Angeles Carreres,Maria Noriega-Sánchez,and Marcus Tomalin.Published by Routledge in 2019,it is the first to explore how translation needs to be redefined and reconfigured in situations where multiple modes of communication occur simultaneously.The original text consists of eight chapters,and Chapters 1 to Chapter 6 are translated by the authoress in collaboration with two team members.This report is based on translation of Chapter 5"Translating ’I"’ and Chapter 6 "The Multimodal Dimensions of Literature in Translation",with a total of over 32,000 Chinese characters.The original text consists of two expository treatises with specialized terminology and a large number of poems and third languages expressions,which makes it difficult to understand and translate.According to the general requirements of translation,the translation text should be faithful to the original text and smooth in its meaning.Under the principles of "fidelity",this report mainly analyzes how the translation problems are solved through addition and adjustment.Specifically,it illustrates structural addition,semantic addition and rhetorical addition with translation examples according to the specific context.It then discusses adjustment at the level of adverbial clause,adverbial phrase and adverbial modifier in order to make the sentence patterns more in line with Chinese language habits and increase readability.Through this practice,the author understands that appropriate translation methods should be combined to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the translation.The author hopes that this translation practice can provide some reference for the translation of multimodal text.
