A Report On Escort Interpreting For Social Media And International Organizations During Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022

During the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022,I worked as an interpreter for media and international organizations in the Jinlongtan Hotel,one of the hotels officially designated by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.The report is based on this interpreting practice lasting for more than thirty days.Guided by the Interpretive Theory of Translation,the report focuses on the three stages of comprehension,de-verbalization,and reformulation,as well as the interpreter’s reaction to challenges and problems at the three stages.The report is developed in five chapters.The first chapter describes the interpreting task,as well as the significance and the structure of the report.The second component is the interpreting process,i.e.,preparations before interpreting,in-task details,and feedback.The three stages of comprehension,de-verbalization,and reformulation,as well as the Interpretive Theory of Translation’s evolution and practical value,are covered in the third chapter,the theoretical framework,to help readers better understand the case analyses that are based on this theory.The fourth part,which serves as the report’s main body,contains cases and analyses,including cases on how I understand the sense in various contexts,and cases of strategy choice during de-verbalization and reformulation.The task and the report are summarized in the last chapter.The author hopes that by analyzing his interpreting practice in an interpretive way,the report will help its readers gain a better understanding of the pragmatic value of the Interpretive Theory of Translation,and provide interpreters with lessons and suggestions for future problem-solving in interpreting tasks and improving their interpreting skills in the future.
