| Nearly 40% of the global offshore drilling efforts originate from the Chinese sea area. This implies that the oil and gas trade between China and other countries is becoming increasingly frequent. Therefore, there is a growing need for translators to perform translation studies in the oil industry. This translation practice report is based on translating the Risk Governance of Offshore Oil and Gas Operations(Chapter 7 in Part Ⅱ)into Chinese.Under the guidance of the theory of translation action, this paper discusses and analyzes the language characteristics of petroleum technology English from the lexical, syntactic, and discourse levels through case analysis. The translator considers that translation techniques such as structure conversion, inversion, and synthesis can be used to make the target text "fully equivalent" to the source text in terms of content and information,as well as "functional equivalence" to make it easier for the target language receiver to understand,in order to realize the effective information transmission and linguistic communicative functions.Eventually, the findings and suggestions of this translation practice are summarized, which can provide reference to the methods of the Chinese translation of petroleum English texts and promote the continuous development of translation research. |
