Abstract/Summary:
With the development of high school English curriculum reform,English reading teaching is confronted with the realistic challenges of “literary selection” teaching.Teachers’ attention to the cultivation of students’ thinking quality is insufficient. Therefore, graphic organizers gradually come into our sight as an important teaching strategy to solve problems.Through questionnaire survey, interview, and classroom observation,245 first-tier English teachers from 10 senior high schools in Guangzhou,Guangdong province have been studied,in order to solve the following three questions.First, what is the attitude of high school English teachers towards the use of graphic organizers in English reading teaching?Second, how can high school English teachers use graphic organizers in English reading teaching? Third, what challenges do teachers encounter when using graphic organizers in high school English reading teaching? In order to solve the above three problems, this study conducts a investigation and observation. The findings are as follows.Firstly, teachers hold a positive attitude towards the application of graphic organizer in English reading teaching.Secondly, teachers often use tree diagrams and spider diagrams to summarize or retell the article.Thirdly, through questionnaire survey, interview,as well as classroom observation,it is shown that there is a lack of comprehensive and in-depth understanding of graphic organizers and proficiency in the use of graphic organizers;Graphic organizers still cannot motivate all the students in the class.Considering the above problems, this study puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions and gives some inspiration to English teachers in front-line senior high schools to use graphic organizers in reading teaching.
