Objective1 To construct the five-element music intervention program for moderate depression patients.2 To verify the intervention effect of five-element music on improving depression, anxiety and sleep quality in patients with moderate depression.3 To compare the effects of five-element music and western music on improving depression, anxiety and sleep quality in patients with moderate depression.Methods1 Literature review was used to form the preliminary draft of the five-element music intervention program for patients with moderate depression.Through expert group meetings and pre-experiment,the intervention program was revised.2 A total of 138 patients who were diagnosed with moderate depression were selected from the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in Guangdong Province.According to the random number table, they were divided into western music group, routine treatment group, and five-element music group, with 46 cases in each group.Patients in the routine treatment group received routine treatment and care during hospitalization, patients in the western music therapy group listened to the western music based on routine care and treatment during hospitalization, and patients in the five-element music group received five-element music intervention based on routine care and treatment during hospitalization.Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA),Sleep Dysfunction Rating Scale(SDRS),and Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS)were used to assess the patients’ sleep, anxiety, depression changes before the intervention,1 week after the intervention,2 weeks after the intervention.3 In this study,SPSS22.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data, descriptive statistics were applied to obtain the median and range for continuous variables, and counting data were statistically described by frequency and percentage.Rank sum test and generalized linear model were used to compare the changes and differences of each index among three groups.Results1 The intervention plan was finally established including intervention process, intervention frequency, evaluation index, and intervention duration, and the expert authority coefficient was 0.815.2 The preliminary results showed that 86.7 % of the patients participated in 14 interventions, and all patients had no adverse reactions.A total of 6 medical workers and 12 patients were interviewed. The data were analyzed and five themes were summarized as follows:(a)constructing harmonious.Relationship with patients(b)ensuring patients safety.(c)family support can promote participate.(d)beneficial experience of participation in intervention.(e)notes in the intervention process3 In this study,120 patients were included, with 40 cases in the five-element music group,41 cases in the western music group, and 39 cases in the routine treatment group. There were no statistical differences in the general demographic data of the subjects, which were comparable(P>0.05),and no significant differences between the baseline efficacy indicators were found(P>0.05).After 2 weeks of intervention, the HAMD scores of the three groups of patients were 6(4,9)vs 10(8,14)vs 13(11,17),the SDS scores were 41(35,48)vs 50(41,55)vs 53(48,61),the HAMA scores were 4(2,5)vs 4(3,8)vs 6(4,10),and the SDRS scores were 3(0,9)vs 1(0,8)vs8(1,10).The results of the generalized estimation equation showed that there was an interactive effect between changes in depression, which means that the depression of the five-element group gradually improved with time(P<0.05).Conclusions1 The five-element music intervention program for depression constructed in this study is operable.2 The five-element music can reduce the anxiety and depression of patients with moderate, and improve the quality of sleep of patients.3 Western music and five-element music therapy can improve the negative emotions and sleep quality of patients with moderate depression. The effect of five-element music therapy on improving depression and anxiety is better than western music therapy. In terms of improving sleep quality,five-element music therapy has the same effect as western music therapy.
