Objective:To understand the current situation of knowledge, attitude, and behavior about toxoplasmosis among college students in Taiyuan City and their health education needs, and analyze the influencing factors of knowledge, attitude, and behavior about toxoplasmosis. To understand the differences in toxoplasmosis knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among different types of students, and to provide a theoretical basis for better carrying out targeted health education for college students and promoting the formation of good living habits.Method:Using a convenient sampling method, this study selected 2024 students from two universities in Taiyuan City,Shanxi Province from March 2022 to July 2022 to conduct a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire content is divided into four parts: general demography, knowledge, attitude and behavior of toxoplasmosis, health education needs, pet breeders’ feeding status, and the status of the number of stray animals on campus.Excel was used to process the data, and SPSS 26.0 statistical software was used for statistical analysis.Measurement data such as scores were described using mean ± standard deviation.Counting data such as pass rate were described using rate or constituent ratio.Single factor analysis was conducted using chi-square test, multivariate linear regression analysis was used for multivariate analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between the three current situations of knowledge, attitude, and behavior.Result:1.The scores of knowledge, attitude and behavior of Toxoplasmosis among college students in Taiyuan were(9.5 ± 3.5),(2.7 ± 1.1)and(6.2 ± 1.4)respectively.The passing rate was 58.40%,63.19% and 88.29% respectively.2.Among the students who participated in the survey, the knowledge with the highest awareness rate was that they may be infected with certain diseases after close contact with animals(89.87%),while the knowledge with the lowest awareness rate was that certain mental disorders may be related to infection with toxoplasma gondii(41.40%).The item with the highest positive attitude holding rate was willingness to take blood from pets for examination(86.76%),while the item with the lowest positive attitude was not abandoning pets after knowing that pet rearing may cause infection(54.40%).The item with the highest positive behavior formation rate was not adopting or feeding campus animals(87.55%),and the lowest was separating raw and cooked knives from cutting boards(49.41%).3.The results of univariate analysis showed that there were differences in the pass rate of knowledge awareness among students of different genders, school types, and parental education levels. There were differences in the pass rate of positive attitudes among students of different genders, grades, and school types. There were differences in the pass rate of positive behaviors among students of different genders, grades, school types, and parental education levels, and the above differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender and school type were the influencing factors for the knowledge awareness rate of toxoplasmosis(P<0.05),gender,grade,and school type were the influencing factors for the positive attitude holding rate of toxoplasmosis(P<0.05),and grade, school type, and parental education level were the influencing factors for the positive behavior formation rate of toxoplasmosis(P<0.05).4.The most wanted knowledge about toxoplasmosis among college students participating in the survey is how to prevent it,while the students who wanted to understand the treatment methods and drugs for toxoplasmosis were the least. The main ways for students to acquire knowledge are multimedia channels such as the internet, books and newspapers, etc. The largest number of students want to obtain knowledge from multimedia channels such as the Internet.5.Of all the students involved in the survey,529(26.14%)had pets.Only 46.12% of students’ pets are regularly vaccinated, regularly deworming, and cleaned. The existence of stray animals on campus is relatively common, and more students usually see 1 to 5 stray animals on campus.Conclusions:1.There are certain differences in the scores of knowledge, attitude, and behavior about toxoplasmosis among students with different characteristics.Gender and school type are the influencing factors of knowledge awareness rate of toxoplasmosis.Gender, grade, and school type are the influencing factors of positive attitude holding rate of toxoplasmosis.Grade, school type, and parents’ educational level are the influencing factors of positive behavior formation rate of toxoplasmosis2.The awareness rate of toxoplasmosis knowledge among college students in Taiyuan City is low,the holding rate of positive attitudes is not high, and the formation rate of positive behaviors is high.3.The students participating in the survey have a high demand for knowledge related to toxoplasmosis, and there is a certain difference between the actual and desired access to knowledge.4.The proportion of people who keep pets is not small, but less than half of them regularly vaccinate their pets, undergo regular pest control and cleaning, and the presence of stray animals on campus is relatively common. These factors can affect the transmission and prevalence of toxoplasmosis and need to be highlighted.5.In future health education on toxoplasmosis, different targeted education measures should be taken according to the characteristics of the population.During the education process, attention should be paid to the comprehensiveness of the popularization of knowledge related to toxoplasmosis, and multi-channel health education should be conducted mainly through multimedia such as the Internet, supplemented by books and newspapers,to promote the physical health of college students.
