With the continuous development of modern medical technology and the ceaseless improvement of people’s living standards, the needs for medical services are evergrowing. This has led to the derivation of for-profit medical institutions which are mainly composed of private hospitals.Private hospitals in China have gone through the stage from nonexistence to pass into existence, from small to large, from decentralized to centralized. They have played a complementary role to the service power of public healthcare and become one of the indispensable components of China’s medical and health service system at this moment. But due to the late start, there are still many challenges in the process of their operations. These challenges also include particular serious problems in performance management, such as irrationality of performance design and difficulty of the implement for performance improvement. As a private “major special, minor general” tertiary hospital, the M hospital for women and children has implemented performance management measures based on operational indicators from the establishment. It also faces problems such as poor grounding of performance appraisal and insufficient impact of performance results. With the increasing number of local private hospitals, the decreasing data of the patients due to the COVID-19 and the competition from public medical institutions, the puzzles brought about by its development have gradually emerged. In this situation,it is particularly important to strengthen the performance management of private hospitals with the help of scientific and effective measures. After extensive study and deep understanding of the theoretical knowledge of the balanced scorecard, the author find that it can be used to optimize the performance management system of hospitals, which can not only effectively solve the problems in human resources, but also influence their financial capabilities, marketing capabilities, users’ experiences and innovation capabilities, then help them to get out of predicament and improve the competitive abilities. Therefore, the author conducted an in-depth study on performance management of M hospital for women and children with the help of balanced scorecard. This thesis diagnoses the problems of the current performance management for M hospital for women and children as follow through the method of literature analysis, questionnaire survey and expert interview.Firstly, the performance planning is arbitrarily.Secondly, the performance indicators are irrational. What’s more, there is lack of effective communication in the performance management process.Lastly, the results of performance appraisal were not fully utilized. In view of the above problems of M hospital for women and children, the thesis combines with the hospital’s business development strategy and the actual situation, apply balanced scorecard related theories to put forward feasible improvement programs to optimize the perfect performance management system. It will be a greater extent to improve the enthusiasm of medical staff and promote the long-term and sound development of hospital operations. |
