Objective:To observe the degree of improvement and clinical safety of Chai Hu Ding Epileptic Tang in depressed patients with epileptic co-morbidities of liver depression and phlegm coagulation,to enrich the clinical research and treatment ideas related to epileptic co-morbidities,and to give full play to the advantages of Chinese medicine in treating epilepsy and comorbidities. Methods:A total of 60 patients diagnosed with epilepsy co-morbid depression in the inpatient and outpatient clinics of Weifang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2021 to October 2022,with Chinese medical evidence conforming to the liver-depression-phlegm-coagulation type, were selected for clinical observation and divided into treatment and control groups according to the random number table method;if patients had previously combined other underlying diseases and had to take relevant therapeutic drugs, they were maintained after ensuring no conflict with the treatment means in the group.Patients were instructed to maintain emotional stability, quit smoking and alcohol, avoid long-term use of cell phones, computers,TV,etc.,not to stay up late, not to overwork,to exercise with appropriate work intensity and activities,to minimize the consumption of coffee, cola, strong tea, spicy and other stimulating foods, and to ensure that each patient was accompanied by at least one family member during the treatment process to supervise the patient’s daily work and rest and to Assist patients to record relevant information. In the control group, the patients were given oral ASMs(anti-epileptic drugs)plus duloxetine hydrochloride enteric capsules, and in the treatment group, the patients were given Chai Hu Ding Epileptic Tang granules(homemade in Weifang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital)on top of the treatment in the control group.SPSS27.0 statistical software was used to analyze and process the collected data, and the normality test and chi-square test were performed for the measurement data. The difference was statistically significant at P < 0.05 and significant at P < 0.01.Results:The final case data were collected from 30 cases each in the control group and the treatment group,i.e.,a total of 60 patients completed this experiment. The results showed that there was no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of general information such as gender, education level, and disease scale statistics before treatment(P>0.05),which was comparable. The control group and the treatment group showed improvement in TCM evidence score, seizure frequency,EEG,and HAMD depression score after treatment compared with those before treatment(P<0.05).The treatment group was more effective than the control group in terms of seizure frequency and EEG improvement(P <0.05),and the treatment group was also more effective than the control group in terms of depression relief and TCM symptom score(P < 0.05).No serious adverse reactions were fed back to patients in both groups during the treatment, and no patients in both groups shed during the treatment.Significant differences. Conclusion:The combination of the Chinese medicine Chai Hu Ding Epileptic Tang granules with conventional ASMs and antidepressants can improve the seizure frequency,EEG,depression degree, and TCM syndrome score in depressed patients with liver-depression and phlegm-coagulation type epilepsy, with high clinical safety, which can be further studied in depth and widely promoted.
