Objective: To observe the efficacy of the Prescription for Warming Kidney and Preventing Asthma on the TCM symptom score, pulmonary functions(FEV1 and PEF),ACT score,AQLQ score and peripheral blood(PB)EOS count of patients with mild to moderate bronchial asthma in chronic duration(cold phlegm syndrome due to yang deficiency)and objectively evaluate its efficacy and safety. Methods: 60 patients who were treated in the inpatient and outpatient departments of the Department of Pulmonary Diseases,Jinan Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from December 2021 to December 2022 and met the diagnostic criteria for mild to moderate bronchial asthma in chronic duration(cold phlegm syndrome due to yang deficiency)were selected and randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group(n = 30,respectively).The control group was given basic Western medicine treatment(Budesonide and Formoterol Fumarate Powder for Inhalation). The treatment group was given the above-mentioned basic Western medicine treatment combined with the Prescription for Warming Kidney and Preventing Asthma(Gecko, cinnamon, earthworm,Schisandra chinensis, fried white silkworm and angelica dahurica)for oral treatment. The course of treatment for the two groups was 8 weeks. The changes in the TCM symptom score, pulmonary functions(FEV1 and PEF),ACT score,AQLQ score,PB EOS count and other test indexes of patients in the two groups before and after the medication were recorded and analyzed respectively. The software SPSS23.0 was used for the statistical analysis of the data collected.Results:1.The overall response rate(ORR)in the treatment group and the control group was 93.10% and 79.31%,respectively.The ORR in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).2.The total TCM symptom score of patients in the two groups after the treatment was lower than that before the treatment(P<0.05);and the post-treatment total TCM symptom score of patients in the treatment group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05).3.The PB EOS count of patients in the two groups after the treatment was lower than that before the treatment(P<0.05),but the efficacy in the two groups was equivalent(P>0.05).4.The ACT and AQLQ scores of patients in the two groups after the treatment were higher than that before the treatment(P<0.05);and the ACT and AQLQ scores of patients in the treatment group were better than those in the control group(P<0.05).5.The levels of pulmonary functions(FEV1 and PEF)of patients in the two groups after the treatment were higher than those before the treatment(P<0.05);and the improvement in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group(P<0.05).6.There was no obvious abnormal change in the liver function, kidney function, blood routine, urine routine and other safety indexes of patients in the two groups before and after the treatment. Conclusion: The Prescription for Warming Kidney and Preventing Asthma combined with conventional Western medicine treatment is more efficient for patients with mild to moderate bronchial asthma in chronic duration(cold phlegm syndrome due to yang deficiency)than Western medicine treatment alone, and can effectively alleviate patients’ clinical symptoms such as shortness of breath and chest tightness, improve their pulmonary functions and quality of life and ensure the safety of the clinical medication. Therefore, this therapy is worthy of further study and clinical popularization.
