ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of professional commitment among nursing students in secondary vocational schools, based on the social cognitive vocational theory as the framework,to explore the impact of individual internal factors(resilience),external environmental factors(social support),vocational cognitive factors(self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation)on professional commitment and the path of action,in order to provide positive evidence for the training management of grassroots nursing talents in China.MethodsUsing a convenient sampling method,972 nursing students were selected from a secondary vocational health school in Shandong Province as the research subjects. The survey was conducted using the General Information Questionnaire,Professional Commitment Scale,Adolescent Mental Resilience Scale,Adolescent Social Support Scale,General Self efficacy Scale, and Vocational Outcome Expectation Scale.SPSS22.0 software package was used for statistical analysis of data, including independent sample t-test,one-way ANOVA,Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis.Using AMOS23.0 software,to establish a structural equation model of professional commitment and related factors.Results1.The current situation of professional commitment among nursing students in secondary vocational schools and differences in general demographic dataThe average score of the total professional commitment items of 972 nursing students in secondary vocational schools was(3.84±0.62),and the average scores of each dimension item from high to low were:normative commitment(4.23± 0.66),emotional commitment(3.80±0.71),ideal commitment(3.75±0.72),and continued commitment(3.69±0.61).Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA showed that the professional commitment level of nursing students in secondary vocational schools was statistically significant in grade, whether there were medical staff in their family, and willingness to choose a profession(Ps<0.05).2.Correlation between resilience, social support,self-efficacy,vocational outcome expectations, and professional commitment among nursing students in secondary vocational schoolsPearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of professional commitment and scores of each dimension of nursing students in secondary vocational schools were significantly positively correlated with resilience and scores of each dimension(r=0.262~0.636,P<0.01),social support and scores of each dimension(r=0.347~0.499,Ps<0.01),self-efficacy(r=0.416~0.594,Ps<0.01),and vocational outcome expectations(r=0.638~0.785,Ps<0.01).3.Hierarchical regression analysis of professional commitment and related factors among nursing students in secondary vocational schoolsTaking the total score of professional commitment among nursing students in secondary vocational school as the dependent variable, the general demography data with statistical differences in the single factor analysis were included in the first layer of the hierarchical regression equation as the control variable, resilience and social support were included in the second layer of the equation, and then self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation were included in the third layer to build a hierarchical regression equation model. The results showed that in the third layer,resilience(β=0.154),self-efficacy(β=0.100)and vocational outcome expectation(β=0.556)could positively predict professional commitment(Ps<0.001)and collectively explain 67.4%of the variation in professional commitment.4.Structural equation analysis of factors related to professional commitment of nursing students in secondary vocational schoolsAMOS23.0 statistical software was used to construct structural equation models of factors related to professional commitment of nursing students in secondary vocational schools, and the model fitting indexes were as follows:χ2/df=4.801,RMSEA=0.063,GFI=0.958,AGFI=0.928,NFI=0.970,IFI=0.976,TLI=0.964,CFI=0.976,the model was well fitted.Model path analysis showed that resilience could directly affect professional commitment(direct effect coefficient was 0.291),indirectly affect professional commitment through vocational outcome expectation, and indirectly affect professional commitment through self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation(indirect effect coefficient was 0.361).Social support could indirectly influence professional commitment through vocational outcome expectation(indirect effect coefficient was 0.112).Conclusions1.The overall level of professional commitment among nursing students in secondary vocational schools was in the middle level and needed to be further improved.2.Resilience,self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation of nursing students in secondary vocational schools were independent predictors of professional commitment.3.Vocational cognitive factors(self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation)of nursing students in secondary vocational schools had a direct effect on professional commitment, individual internal factors(resilience)had a direct or indirect effect on professional commitment through self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation, and external environmental factors(social support)had an indirect effect on professional commitment through vocational outcome expectation. It was suggested that nursing educators can not only improve the resilience and social support level of nursing students in secondary vocational schools, but also improve their professional commitment level by improving their self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectation.
