Abstract/Summary:
The COVID-19 is a major public health emergency that has occurred since the founding of New China with extremely fast transmission speed, extremely wide scope of infection and extreme difficulty in prevention and control;the COVID-19 situation not only tests the emergency response ability of governments at all levels in China, but also is a "touchstone" for testing social governance, public service and health care. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 people’s panic has intensified, and it is urgent to understand the latest epidemic information through various channels, and the media,as the main channel for people to understand the epidemic, naturally plays an important role in anti-epidemic propaganda and public opinion guidance. As the backbone of the future of society and an important user and group of media information dissemination, the mental health problems and media contact behavior of university students have become an important link in the construction of social governance. Therefore, education departments and institutions have called on all walks of life to focused on the mental health of university students and take favorable measures to intervene and guide, and the media academic community has also carried out research on the relationship between mass media and subjective psychological emotions and emotional experiences;many scholars believe that there is a direct correlation between mass media, media contact and people’s subjective happiness;but this conclusion is based on a premise, that is,the trust and acceptance of media users to the media remain stable and unchanged. However, the author found that in the real environment of the outbreak, the relationship between media contact and happiness will be directly affected by the trust of the media. Therefore, this paper takes Jiangxi university students as the research object to explore the correlation between the media trust and subjective wellbeing of the college students of Jiangxi province during the COVID-19,in order to deeply understand the psychological and emotional dynamics of college students in the process of interacting with the media.Based on the questionnaire data of 10 universities in Jiangxi, the paper uses descriptive statistical analysis, variance analysis, regression analysis and correlation analysis to conduct empirical analysis of research problems. The study found that:(1)During the COVID-19 period, the media trust of the college students of Jiangxi province had a significant impact on subjective happiness, and there was a significant positive correlation between media trust and positive emotions and life satisfaction;media trust and negative emotions showed a significant negative correlation.(2)Between the trust degree and subjective well-being of different media channels,it is not all directly related;it is found that when the media channel chooses the official mainstream media, the media trust and subjective happiness show a positive impact;however, when the media channel chooses the unofficial mainstream media, the happiness of the college students of Jiangxi province is quite different;one of the important influencing factors is that the control variable will have an impact on the relationship between media trust and subjective happiness;therefore, the author believes that There is no direct impact between trust and subjective well-being in media channels, but rather interaction with subjective well-being through other controlling variables(e.g.,demographic variables and media contact).(3)There is a positive correlation between information credibility, source credibility and subjective well-being.The study found that information from highconfidence sources helps to enhance the subjective well-being of individuals, and timely understanding of information dynamics and popular science information through official channels can help college students channel negative emotions and maintain emotional stability.(4)The media trust and subjective well-being of college boys are higher than those of girls, the main reason is that the social and emotional communication needs of college girls are higher than those of boys, and girls’ minds are more delicate and more susceptible to external influences. In the study, the author also found that during the COVID-19,due to the mandatory social distancing policy, the dependence of college students on the media has been intensified;this has triggered a series of negative effects, such as the "deficit" of media trust, the "imbalance" of empathy, the increase in stickiness of online users, impairment and fear of missing out scale. In view of the above phenomena, this study proposes in the conclusion that in order to enhance and maintain subjective happiness, college students can cultivate and enhance the literacy and ability of digital survival, gradually return to real life, avoid excessive mediating, and cause disconnection with the lives of the public.
