Safety Evaluation And Promotion Strategies Of Pocket Parks In Child-friendly Residential Communities

Children are a valuable asset of human development,and their development carries the hopes of all.Creating a safe and friendly environment for children has become an important part of building a child-friendly city,and designing an outdoor activity space conducive to children’s safe growth is one of the important aspects.As a unique form of green space,pocket park is the most accessible form of public green space for children.Due to the shortage of land resources brought by the accelerating process of urbanization in China,green space resources are more valuable in this context."Opening and sharing" enables every resident to enjoy the right of green space resources.With the improvement of the openness of pocket parks,the safety of pocket parks is a new round of tests.The repeated psychological trauma of the epidemic,the rising unemployment rate and other social problems will induce the breeding of urban crime from different levels.Considering the high success rate of crimes against children,it is necessary to incorporate the concept of crime prevention through environmental design(CPTED theory)into the safety construction of pocket parks from the perspective of children.In this situation,it is extremely important to fully collect basic data of pocket parks in the study area and explore strategies to improve pocket parks to meet children’s safety needs.Based on the theory of crime Prevention by Environmental Design(CPTED theory),this study started from the safety principle of child-friendly,and conducted safety evaluation research on 15 pocket parks in Caoyang New Village.Through a preliminary survey of all pocket parks in Caoyang Park and a large number of literature studies,the relationship between environment and crime causes was analyzed from multiple fields,and the formation and evolution,main core,localization approach and main evaluation mode of the environment and security related theories represented by CPTED theory were systematically sorted out.The evaluation factors of pocket park safety from the child-friendly perspective suitable for Chinese national conditions were screened out,and the weights of criterion layer and indicator layer were determined through expert opinion consultation and weight survey.Develop citizen questionnaire based on evaluation system.The evaluation scores of each pocket park were obtained by distributing recycling questionnaires.The results show that "site location" is too important,and "emergency alarm device" and "monitoring equipment" are less important.4 factors such as "site boundary" and "lighting conditions" should be emphasized in the design.Although the eight factors,including "caretaker monitoring" and "entrance and exit location," have been paid attention to,they still need to be further improved in design.Finally,based on the evaluation results and the current situation of the park,specific action guidelines are put forward from the concept of the whole life cycle: a defensible safe activity space is achieved around the planning and design in the early stage,a certain sense of security and deterrence to criminals are achieved from the perspective of users’ behavioral psychology in the process of use,and daily security management of the park is achieved in the later stage of park security management.In order to restrain the occurrence of crimes against children,create a positive park environment atmosphere,and provide certain reference for the improvement of children’s safety in pocket parks in the future.
