| The Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan are located in the southeast of the Chang’an district of Xi’an in the area of Fanchuan,with the Qinling Mountains to the south and Chang’an to the north,and are a representative group of Buddhist buildings in the Guanzhong region.The unique terrain of the Fanchuan Plateau makes the overall environment and space of the eight temples in Fanchuan highly distinctive and of great research value.The eight temples in Fanchuan are the result of the accumulation of Chinese Buddhism during the Sui and Tang dynasties,and most of the eight temples in Fanchuan today are reconstructed,with only a few buildings remaining,such as the Huayan Temple Pagoda and the Xingjiao Temple Pagoda.This project explores the spatial characteristics and cultural connotations of the architectural environment of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan from an architectural perspective,taking into account the historical background of Buddhism in Chang’an,and provides new ideas for the conservation and restoration of the buildings of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan and their surroundings.The first part focuses on the background and development of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan,their current situation,architectural layout and site selection features.The second part is the focus of this research,analysing the spatial environment of the eight temples in Fanchuan in relation to the ’mountains,water,city and village’;focusing on the most representative Xingjiao Temple and Huayan Temple,and analysing the spatial environment characteristics of the two Buddhist temples from the perspective of the temples and pagodas;analysing the cultural connotations and significance of the eight temples’ architecture and form from different cultural perspectives.The third section summarises the cultural significance of the eight temples of Fanchuan.The third part summarises the historical,cultural,scientific and artistic values of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan,looking forward to their reference value for the construction of modern ecological civilisation and tourism development,as well as providing a theoretical basis for the conservation and development of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan,with a view to providing a reference for the future design of the environmental space of Buddhist temple architectural groups.In conclusion,the study of the spatial characteristics and cultural connotations of the architectural environment of the Eight Great Temples of Fanchuan has a certain historical,academic and cultural value.Through this study,it is hoped to enhance the public’s awareness of the conservation and inheritance of traditional architecture,provide a reference basis for the conservation and restoration of the eight temples in Fanchuan,further expand the influence of the eight temples in Fanchuan,make more people pay attention to traditional culture,and contribute to the conservation and revitalisation of excellent Chinese traditional culture.It also provides a reference basis for the conservation of monastic architecture and environmental space in mountainous areas,and provides ideas for the development of modern architectural design on this basis,which is of great academic and reference value. |
