Promoting ethnic communication, exchanges, and integration is the fundamental way to solidify the consciousness of the Chinese National Community Consciousness.Traditional village public spaces have the bearing capacity of ethnic cultural symbols, serving as a stage for multi-ethnic public life and an important carrier for communication and integration among various ethnic groups.North Guangxi is located at the border of Hunan,Guizhou and Guangxi, and at the edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It is a place where many ethnic groups live together, including Rongshui,Sanjiang and Longsheng, which are contiguous in turn.It is the most concentrated area for Dong and Miao people in Guangxi. The geographical environment, unique natural resources and climate,as well as the intertwined ethnic characteristics of the three counties with multiple mountains and scattered flat dams, have nurtured multiple traditional villages with mixed Dong and Miao populations, presenting diverse village landscapes and public space characteristics. The current research mainly describes the public space characteristics of single ethnic villages of the Dong or Miao ethnic groups, neglecting the impact of the integration and interaction of the Dong and Miao ethnic groups on the public space characteristics in the context of ethnic settlement.Taking traditional villages with mixed Dong and Miao ethnic groups as the object, exploring the characteristics of public spaces in villages under the mode of ethnic mixing can explore the mapping of the integration and interaction of Dong and Miao ethnic groups in public spaces, presenting the diversity and integration characteristics of traditional village public spaces in ethnic settlement areas. This paper comprehensively and systematically describes the characteristics and deep structure of the public space of the Dong Miao mixed traditional villages in northern Guangxi, discusses the diversity and integration of the public space of the Dong Miao mixed villages, and expounds the regional and ethnic cultural connotation of the public space, using the theory of ethnology, history and other multi-disciplinary theories, taking the ethnic integration as the clue, starting from the regional physical geography, history and culture, and combining with the analysis of 14 traditional village samples,Exploring the mutual influence and mechanism between ethnic integration and village public space has important theoretical value and practical significance. The research first discusses the formation process of the spatial distribution pattern of the mutual embedding and interlacing of the Dong and Miao ethnic groups in northern Guangxi from the aspects of physical geography, historical background, and ethnic cultural characteristics, and grasps the historical process of the formation and development of the traditional villages of the mixed residence of the Dong and Miao ethnic groups in northern Guangxi.Secondly, from a macro level, explore the spatial distribution characteristics and morphological characteristics of Dong Miao mixed settlement villages, and analyze the reasons for their formation. On this basis, through extensive collection of literature and in-depth detailed survey, combined with the comprehensive research methods of typology, field research, oral history interview, and comparative induction, comprehensively and systematically describe the physical form characteristics and cultural connotation characteristics of the public space of the traditional villages of Dong Miao mixed residence in northern Guangxi, including three aspects of space form, public building form, and public activity characteristics,This involves a comparative analysis of the public spaces between Dong Miao mixed residential villages and typical Dong and Miao villages.By comparing and summarizing the diversity and integration characteristics of the public spaces in Dong Miao mixed residential villages compared to Dong and Miao single ethnic villages. Finally, from the aspects of physical geography environment, ethnic interaction and ethnic identity, ethnic cultural changes, economic and technological development and institutional change, this paper expounds the formation mechanism of the diversity and integration characteristics of the public space of the Dong Miao mixed traditional villages.
