Under the background of encouraging the integrated development of culture and tourism, historical and cultural district serve as an important carrier of cultural and tourism, and their regional cultural characteristics have become a major selling point in tourism development. However, with the rapid promotion of cultural tourism, the construction of historical and cultural district has gradually moved towards commercialization and homogenization, damaging the original cultural environment of the district and exacerbating the disappearance of the "authenticity" of local culture in the district. At present, the protection of historical and cultural district is in a deepening stage, and more attention is paid to the renewal of the "authenticity" of the district. How to present, construct, and preserve the "authenticity" in the district space, and reasonably optimize the district space has become an urgent research topic. The Shangxiahang area used to have developed water transportation and bustling shops, witnessing the rise and fall of Fuzhou’s commercial culture as a commercial hub.How to showcase a "authentic" historical scene and evoke local cultural memories in the protection and renovation of the district is a key focus of exploration in the renewal and construction of Shangxiahang historical and cultural district. Therefore, this article cites the theoretical perspective of "staged authenticity" in tourism to explore the issue of "authenticity" in the construction of tourist destinations, and combines research methods such as questionnaire survey, literature analysis, participatory observation, and interdisciplinary intersection to study the optimization of "authenticity" in the space of Shangxiahang historical and cultural district.Firstly, this article reviews the evolution process of the "staged authenticity" theory, clarifies the concept and connotation of this theory, and further analyzes the connection between the "staged authenticity" theory and the spatial structure of historical and cultural district by summarizing the types of "stage" spaces, providing theoretical reference for optimizing district spaces.Secondly, based on theoretical analysis, this article conducts a survey on the current situation of the spatial structure of the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district.Due to the differences in spatial characteristics, openness, and functional attributes of the district space, the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district is divided into three types of "stage" space: "front stage, curtain, and back stage".By summarizing tourists’ true perception and authenticity evaluation questionnaires of the district space, summarize and analyze the "authenticity" issues and reasons faced by district. Finally, this article proposes optimization strategies to address the authenticity of the "stage" space in the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district.By creating cultural scenes in the "front stage" space, integrating cultural resources in the "curtain" space, enhancing the cultural atmosphere in the "back stage" space, enriching the supply of historical and cultural resources, empowering the spatial construction of historical and cultural district, and achieving the goal of optimizing the district space.Research has found that local culture is the main source of "authenticity" in historical and cultural district.By packaging local culture in a reasonable "stage" manner,it can guide the differentiated construction of "stage" space and showcase a more authentic historical and cultural district space with local culture.Looking forward to the future,it is hoped that this study can provide certain reference for the optimization of similar historical and cultural district spaces.
