A Study On The Records Of Zhejiang Haitang In The Qing Dynasty

Haitang Chronicle is a seawall literature that mainly describes the construction of seawall projects and related water conservancy,characters,poetry,and other content.The Haitang Chronicles originated in the Yuan Dynasty,and gradually became standardized in the Ming Dynasty,reaching its peak in the Qing Dynasty.The Qing government attached great importance to the compilation of Haitang Chronicles,and with the promotion of local gentry,Haitang Chronicles had significant development in terms of types,styles,and compilation methods.This article mainly examines the following four issues:First of all,on the basis of combing the development of seawall chronicles in the past dynasties,the author focuses on analyzing the reasons for the development of seawall chronicles in the Qing Dynasty,including the development of the overall editorial cause in the Qing Dynasty,the promotion of seawall construction,the stable socio-economic environment in Zhejiang,and the unique geographical environment of the Qiantang River estuary in Zhejiang.Secondly,analyze the author group,funding sources,and content characteristics of the Qing Dynasty Haitang Chronicles.There are countless studies on the author groups of other types of local chronicles,but there is a lack of overall research on the author groups of Haitang chronicles.The author will explore the author groups of three types of Haitang chronicles: officials,gentry,and scholars,believing that officials are the main force driving the compilation of Haitang chronicles.On this basis,it is summarized that the main sources of funding for the Haitang Chronicles are government funding and self financing by officials,as well as gentry fundraising,and their styles.The content characteristics of the Haitang Chronicles are mainly narrative and informative.Thirdly,from the perspective of Zhejiang seawall chronicles and the construction of Qiantang River seawalls in the Qing Dynasty,the regional characteristics of seawall chronicles were investigated.Because the Qing government had different construction priorities and arrangements for the construction of the north and south banks of the Qiantang River,the seawall chronicles in the northern part of the seawall had a longer span and more detailed records,while the seawall chronicles in the southern part of the seawall had a shorter span and simpler records.Finally,study the value of seawall chronicles.From the perspective of historical documents,there are various types of historical materials such as memorials and factual records in the Haitang Annals,which the author will classify and summarize.These documents also have the function of filling gaps and correcting errors.From the perspective of practical value,it can provide experience and methods for the construction and development of seawalls.At the same time,as seawall records a large number of flood and tide disasters and response methods,it is beneficial to enhance the public’s awareness and ability to resist flood and tide disasters.
