Armor piercing projectile is the main type of anti tank projectile with high muzzle velocity and strong penetration ability. In this paper, the damage equivalent method of fin stabilized shelling penetrator to typical tank armor is studied, and the damage equivalent effect of composite armor, gap armor and explosive reactive armor is analyzed by numerical simulation method. The basic structure of modern tank armor is summarized.Based on the analysis of typical armor structure, the typical structural models of composite armor, gap armor and explosive reaction armor are established. The structure and armor piercing mechanism of APDS with tail fin stability are analyzed.Based on the damage equivalence criterion, the damage equivalence method of APDS penetrating typical tank armor is presented.Hypermesh software was used to establish an armor-piercing projectile penetration simulation model, and the rationality of the model was verified. The damage simulation models of typical composite armor, gap armor and explosive reaction armor of tanks with different impact velocity and impact angle are established respectively. The impact of impact angle and impact velocity on the damage equivalence of typical armor of tanks is analyzed. The simulation results show that the equivalent thickness ratio of composite armor and RHA homogeneous armor is 0.58~1.7,the equivalent thickness ratio of gap armor is 0.45~0.62,and the equivalent thickness ratio of explosive reaction armor is 0.41~8.28 under the penetration of armor piercing projectile. The functional relationship between different impact velocity and impact angle and equivalent damage thickness is obtained. This research work can provide reference for tank armor damage assessment, tank armor protection capability and anti-armor ammunition design, and has high engineering application value.
