Since the reform and opening up,China’s population has massively concentrated in the developed eastern coastal areas and regional central cities, while the central and western regions have become the major population outflow areas. In particular, the counties in the peripheral areas have become one of the most serious regions in terms of population loss.Although the country has implemented a large number of policies to guide the direction of population flow, such as western development, northeast revitalization and rural revitalization,to alleviate the problems of "urban disease" and "rural disease" caused by the imbalance of population flow and spatial structure, with the implementation of policies and regional industrial However, the impact on the county areas is very limited, and the rate and intensity of population loss is still on the rise. The problems of population loss, idle land in urban space and decay of rural space are widespread, and the incongruity of urban-rural development in the context of the contradiction between people and land has become more obvious. The county is the administrative region with the closest integration of town and countryside in China, and is the most direct and effective administrative unit to realize the integrated development of urban and rural areas. Therefore, based on the perspective of population mobility,it is important to analyze the mechanism of urban-rural spatial development evolution and measures of urban-rural spatial optimization from the county dimension to improve the level of urban-rural integrated development in China. This paper takes Ji’an City,Jilin Province as the research object, based on the evolution characteristics of population flow and urban-rural spatial development, analyzes the coupling relationship between population flow and spatial development, summarizes the role mechanism of population flow on spatial evolution, and proposes urban-rural spatial optimization strategies in Ji’an City, the main conclusions include the following five aspects:(1)The history of urban and rural population flow in Ji’an City can be divided into four stages and gradually enters a period of population loss. The county population is in the net outflow stage, and the population spatial structure is highly polarized. The degree of population loss is more serious in villages, and the villages with fluctuating decrease in population and continuous decrease in population account for more of them, mostly located at the edge of townships and in the Old Ridge Mountain Range. The direction of population flow is influenced by population characteristics, employment demand and educational resources, and the direction of flow is relatively stable.(2)The spatial structure of urban and rural areas in Ji’an tends to be stable, and the development of transportation network promotes the optimization of urban and rural spatial structure.Based on the background of population flow, the spatial evolution characteristics of different regions are different. The spatial pattern of the central urban area with population concentration tends to be compact;the spatial pattern of the township with stable population shows multiple development patterns of extension, infill and mixed;the construction area of the rural areas with population loss expands, with spatial agglomeration and low utilization rate of construction land, and the evolution of different types of village forms shows characteristics of large extension The village morphology of different types of villages shows characteristics such as large outward expansion,low-amplitude infill expansion and internal renewal construction.(3)There is a coupling relationship between urban and rural population flow and spatial development. With the gradual loss of population, the coupling degree of the county as a whole in Ji’an City gradually decreases;the central urban area has a low coupling degree in the northeast and southwest directions due to the basic conditions and planning guidance factors;the highly coupled villages are mostly located around the central urban area and townships, the moderately coupled villages are mostly restricted by one of several factors such as economic, ecological and historical preservation, and the low coupled ones have good construction conditions, but the population The willingness to stay is low.(4)Population mobility drives urban-rural residential, social and economic spatial evolution in Ji’an through influencing the driving forces of urban-rural spatial development such as policies, planning regulation, infrastructure and economic conditions, which in turn accelerates urban-rural spatial evolution. From the perspective of temporal evolution, population flow divides urban-rural spatial evolution into three stages: urban-rural spatial separation development stage,urban-rural spatial dislocation development stage, and urban-rural spatial differentiation development stage. From the perspective of spatial differentiation, population movement has different mechanisms of action on different regions such as central urban areas, townships and villages.(5)Based on the problems of urban-rural spatial development in the context of population flow,urban-rural spatial optimization strategies are proposed. In the adjustment of urban and rural scale and level structure,Taiwang Town and Taishang Town are abolished and the level of Qinghe Town is improved;meanwhile, the development of regional central villages is focused and hollow villages are abolished and removed. The internal optimization of the central city includes the outward relocation of functions of the old city and the mixed development mode of functions of the eastern new city, and the internal spatial optimization of the countryside proposes the optimization of the three living spaces and the graded optimization mode of the countryside.
