Memorial landscapes are a special form of spatial expression, which use design and construction to commemorate certain historical events, figures or groups. They are an important part of social memory, through which people can review and inherit the past history and culture, and feel the social common memory and emotional identity. However,in the context of globalization, memorial landscapes also face the impact of multiculturalism and cross-culturalism.When different cultures meet in the memorial space, how to coordinate the perspectives and demands of different cultures, ethnic politics, avoid controversy and conflict, how to adapt to the changes of social environment and technological development, maintain the sense of time and innovation of memorial landscapes, how to attract more public, enhance the social influence of memorial landscapes, etc.are all challenges faced by the current memorial landscapes.Nanjing is a historical and cultural city with many diverse and rich memorial landscapes. These landscapes reflect the social needs and aesthetic tastes of different historical periods and cultural backgrounds in Nanjing, and provide valuable cases and materials for the spatial theoretical analysis of memorial landscapes. These memorial landscapes not only show the historical and cultural heritage of Nanjing, but also embody the urban image and spiritual connotation of Nanjing. However,Nanjing’s memorial landscapes also face a series of challenges and problems, such as how to balance the demands of different stakeholders, how to adapt to social changes and technological developments, how to coordinate with the surrounding environment, how to attract and engage more public, etc. These challenges and problems provide realistic opportunities and significance for the spatial theoretical analysis of memorial landscapes. This paper draws on the third space theory, emphasizing that memorial landscapes are not only physical places and spiritual spaces, but also social processes.Memorial landscapes are open spaces shaped and influenced by different factors such as history, culture, politics and ideology. They not only display the past memories, but also reflect the present demands, and imply the future visions. Therefore, the spatial research of memorial landscapes needs to pay attention to the impact of these changes and innovations on landscape expression and experience,as well as the role of these factors on landscape form, function and meaning.Beyond the binary of physical space and spiritual space of memorial landscapes,we look for a third possibility, dissolve the authoritative discourse of memorial landscapes through the construction of third space, and find the living space and way out for memorial culture. This helps us better understand and evaluate the role and value of memorial landscapes in different social and cultural contexts. This paper adopts the grounded theory analysis method to conduct an in-depth investigation and exploration of the memorial landscape space in Nanjing, and analyzes it from three perspectives: physical space, spiritual space and third space.Physical space refers to the objective existence form of memorial landscape, including memorial objects, environment, form and function, etc.,which constitute the basic elements and characteristics of memorial landscape.Spiritual space refers to the themes, cultures, atmospheres, interactions, etc.that are expressed and conveyed by memorial landscape, which constitute the connotation and value of memorial landscape. The third space is a “differential space” constructed according to the third space theory, which is a space that integrates reality and imagination, and is used to express and convey the openness of collective memory in the third space.By analyzing the significance of the third space in the construction of memorial landscape space, this paper aims to create a new possibility beyond physical space and spiritual space. The third space is a dynamic, diverse, subjective, critical and liberating space, which emphasizes that memorial landscape is not only a fixed place and meaning, but also a changing process and relationship,an open memorial landscape space shaped and influenced by different factors such as history, culture, politics and ideology. On this basis, this paper’s research will help to better understand the connotation and value of memorial landscape,as well as its role and significance in social culture. This paper uses the grounded theory analysis method to conduct a deep study of the memorial landscape space in
