From the construction of a new socialist countryside to the deepening promotion of the "Rural Revitalization" movement,China’s rural areas are undergoing tremendous changes and reforms.Against the backdrop of rapid urbanization,a large number of people have entered cities and many houses in rural areas are vacant.Although the original functions of these old buildings have declined, their structural lifespan and spatial type still have the potential for functional improvement, renovation, and reuse.Due to the scarcity of per capita resources in China, the renovation and upgrading of old buildings are of special urgency and importance. However, many old buildings are either demolished when the urban and rural areas take on a new look,or left to decay, seriously damaging the rural landscape. The "renovation" of buildings carried out in some places is only the beautification of the exterior facade, without truly involving the reuse of buildings. In the current era of rural tourism craze, how to reuse the huge stock of old rural buildings while taking into account the rural style and achieving a coordinated and consistent effect has become the entry point of this study. The main content of the article is to consider how to coordinate the natural, village, architectural, and cultural styles of rural areas in the reuse of old rural buildings,as well as the root causes of the current disorder of rural style. On the basis of in-depth rural visits and research,a systematic analysis is conducted on the relationship between old rural buildings and their appearance.Based on the actual situation in Jiangxi region, four major problems in the current process of reusing old rural buildings are summarized, namely the lack of consistency in building functions both internally and externally, the lack of integrity in point transformation effects, insufficient technical investment and long-term sustainability, and the lack of identification in simple replication.Corresponding principles and strategies are proposed to address these issues: 1.Under the principle of functional adaptability, the strategies are unified coordination between function and appearance, and coordination between spatial scale and functional use;2.The strategy under the principle of integrity is carried out from three aspects: body integration, material color coordination, and interface control and continuity;3.The strategy under the principle of sustainability is to continue the traditional rural construction and utilize green construction technology; The strategy under the principle of identifiability is to highlight the integration of regionalism and comparison.Using the principles and strategies obtained from the above research,a reuse design was conducted for Peiqiao Primary School in Liukeng Village to verify the reliability of the strategy. The article is not only about conclusive solutions, but also about reshaping the rural landscape, awakening the cultural homeland, and allowing people’s emotions to return to the countryside,in order to rebuild the future of the countryside.
