Thee Post Evvaluationn Of Therestoration And The Reconnstructioon And Rreuse Of Mmodern Westernn-style Buildinngs In Simming Disstrict Of Xiamen

Siming District in the southern part of Xiamen island is the political, ecnomic,cultural and financial centre of Xiamen, whose northern part is adjacent to HuliDistrict and eastern, weastern and southern part are facing the islands of the LittleKinmen and Zhangzhou across the sea. Around the20th century, with the rise ofoverseas immigration, many oveaseas Chinese settled in Xiamen after they returnedfrom abroad. They built a lot of early modern buildings, most of which werewestern-style buildings located in Siming District. As time went by, part of thebuildings were destroyed by natural or human disasters because of lack ofmanagement, but a large quanlity of the buildings remained. With the development oftourism in recent years, the public have a better understanding of the importance ofearly modern bulidings, so people have done plenty of work which is related to therestoration and the reconstruction and reuse. The thesis aims to investigate somerepresentative restoration and reconstruction and reuse at present, and try tosummarize experience and deficiency of the current practice via the evaluation andanalysis. By learning from the theory and experience of other areas in our country,improving measures and suggestions are put forward for Siming District（excludegulangyu Islet）. The thesis consists of three parts. First, discuss and establishassessment factors and framework of the restoration and the reconstruction and reuseaccording with the real situation of Siming District on the basis of the relavant theoryand research results on architecture. The selections of the assessment factors aretaking the conservation and reuse of architecture into consideration; Second, classifythe practice of the reconstruction and reuse in Siming District into four typesaccording to the investigation: internal transformation, functional replacement, overalltransformation, and original sample protection. Analyse the specific ways of the fourtypes and the diffences between them with examples, and evaluate each type thensummarize experience and deficiency of every type; Last, organize the existing problems of restoration and reconstruction and reuse at present, and come up withreasonable strategies for discussion. The innovation of the thesis lies in:1.
