With the changes of the times and the rapid development of social economy, modern industrialized production of building materials have been consciously selected by villagers and widely used in rural housing construction because of their characteristics of cheap and durable, excellent performance and convenient access, replacing traditional vernacular building materials to a large extent. However,in the actual use process, these non-traditional materials face problems such as insufficient recognition of characteristics, lack of design guidance, backward construction technology, coupled with the blind following of urban and Western aesthetics by villagers, the use of these materials has lost the long-term design concept and construction logic of material-based and material-based conditions, resulting in the chaos of "abrupt color","one side of a thousand villages" and "homogenization of urban and rural areas",so that nontraditional materials bear the stigma of destroying rural style and become a "scapegoat" that affects rural style.Although building materials most directly show the characteristics of rural style, there is no right or wrong in the material basis for building rural buildings, and design guidance, aesthetic awareness, and construction technology are the deep reasons for the chaos of rural style. The application of non-traditional materials gives rural architecture new vitality and charm, reflects the characteristics of the times in rural architecture, and has a positive effect on creating a diversified rural style.Based on the above problems, this thesis investigates villages in Shandong from the perspective of rural style construction, summarizes and analyzes the current situation and problems of non-traditional materials in rural areas, and explores the appropriate application of non-traditional materials in rural style inheritance and innovation based on excellent rural architecture cases. From the perspectives of material characteristics, material properties, construction technology and other perspectives, the strategy of rational application of nontraditional materials in rural landscape construction is proposed,so as to give full play to the advantages of non-traditional building materials in rural construction,so as to cope with the actual needs of the actual rural construction environment and promote the renewal and development of rural construction. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter of the introduction elaborates on the background of the thesis, research content, research object, relevant definitions and concept analysis, research purpose, significance, ideas and methods, and related research trends.Chapter2 introduces the research content of rural areas in Shandong, and explains the application status of non-traditional materials, the influence of style, and the findings in the evaluation of villagers’ use.The third chapter analyzes the style and physical characteristics of typical non-traditional materials in contemporary rural areas based on cases.Chapter 4 puts forward the design and application strategies of non-traditional building materials in rural landscape construction.Chapter 5 summarizes the main conclusions and puts forward research gaps and prospects.Taking non-traditional materials that directly affect rural style as the research object, combined with the current application of non-traditional materials, this thesis deeply analyzes the characteristics of materials in style and physics, combines material properties with design application in rural areas, and discusses the design application strategies of non-traditional building materials in rural style inheritance and innovation.
