Classical Chinese gardens are divided into royal gardens, private gardens, and te mple gardens according to the identity of the occupants.Compared with royal gardens and private gardens, temple gardens are public-oriented and have a closer connection with the public.Temple gardens are further divided into Taoist temple gardens and Bu ddhist temple gardens. Both Taoism and Buddhism are excellent traditional cultures in China, always in line with the core values of socialism, conforming to the functions o f contemporary society, playing a positive and positive social value, and assuming the role of passing on traditional culture. The temple gardens are representative of the religious cultural landscape, and the evolution of their spatial distribution can reflect the course of the spread and development of religious culture. As part of the composition of classical Chinese gardens, temple gardens are of great significance in the process of historical formation and development. Therefore, the study of the temple gardens can not only grasp the current development of the temple gardens from a macro perspective, but also make recommendations for the conservation and development of the temple gardens according to their spatial distribution characteristics. At the same time,in a time of economic globalisation,it is more important to promote and inherit traditional culture and enhance national cultural confidence.Combining the modern values of temple gardens with the promotion of our traditional culture is of profound significance in strengthening our national self-confidence and building the spiritual civilisation of contemporary society. This paper is based on the clarification of the concepts and connotations of templ e gardens, spatial distribution, and influencing factors.Firstly, data crawling, screenin g and analysis are conducted to determine the number and location of 41,850 southern and northern temple gardens.Secondly, the spatial distribution of temple gardens in t he north and the south is studied and analyzed from the perspective of spatial distribut ion,and the four spatial distribution characteristics are systematically studied using se ven GIS spatial analysis methods such as standard deviation ellipse analysis, spatial a utocorrelation analysis, mean nearest neighbor analysis, superposition analysis, and b uffer zone analysis, and the similarities and differences of their spatial distribution cha racteristics are summarized.Again, the factors influencing the formation of different s patial distribution characteristics of temple gardens in the north and the south are expl ored in depth, and three natural factors, namely, topography, water bodies and roads,a nd three human factors, namely, population, economy and history and culture, are sep arately elaborated. Finally,in view of the different spatial distribution characteristics of temple gardens in the north and the south and their influencing factors, reference su ggestions for conservation and utilization are proposed, and a database of typical temp le gardens is established.Through the above analysis, the main conclusions of this stu dy are as follows:(1)The spatial distribution characteristics of temple gardens in the north and th e south are similar in that they are all clustered, and the direction of spatial distributio n tends to be the same, both are distributed in the east-west direction;in terms of spati al density, the overall temple gardens in China show the spatial distribution characteri stics of "one belt and seven clusters",among which the south is "one belt and four clu sters In terms of spatial density, the overall temple gardens in China show the spatia l distribution characteristics of "one belt and seven aggregations",among which the so uthern part is "one belt and four aggregations" and the northern part is "three aggregat ions".The difference is that the temple gardens in the south are more clustered than th ose in the north, with more core clustering areas;the spatial distribution of temple gar dens in the north and south of China is unbalanced, with the central and southeaster n part being hot areas and the northwestern part being cold areas.(2)Both natural and human factors have an influence on the spatial distribution of temple gardens in the north and the south.Among the natural factors, the similarities are that the temple gardens in both the north and the south are concentrated in areas with gentle terrain, sufficient water supply and more developed transportation. The difference is that the proportion of temple gardens in different buffer zones differs between the north and the south, and the threshold values are different.Among the human factors, the similarities are that the demographic factor, the economic factor and the historical and cultural factor are all positively correlated with the spatial distribution of temple gardens in the north and the south and can have a positive impact. The difference lies in the degree of influence of these factors on the spatial distribution of temple gardens in the north and the south. The use of China’s temple garden resources can be diversified by combining with scenic spots to create religious tourism, religious and cultural industrial parks, developing temple garden operations,as well as serving the community. However, the protection of temple garden resources in China suffers from imperfect policies, weak infrastructure, insufficient protection and lack of professional staff. It should improve policy protection, increase support, provide professional staff, pay attention to conservation and construction work, raise public awareness of conservation, strengthen digitalisation, and establish a database on temple gardens.Focus on the preservation and transmission of the temple gardens themselves and their cultural values.Development and conservation complement each other, together promoting the conservation and development of temple garden resources and making conservation and development sustainable.
