Research On Industrial Design Education Based On STEM Education Concept

In recent years,the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation have brought new challenges to industrial design,and the backwardness of the traditional industrial design education model has led to the inability to provide more high-quality talents for the country.How to cope with the challenges of the new era and solve practical problems,and how to cultivate innovative talents with high comprehensive quality and strong ability have become hot topics nowadays.Based on the concept of STEM education,this thesis conducts research on industrial design education,and understands the current status of the current teaching mode of industrial design at home and abroad and the concept,characteristics and development of STEM education through the literature method.The case analysis method and statistical analysis method are used to summarize the five dimensions of educational concepts,educational conditions,educational methods,educational evaluation,and social support of top domestic colleges and universities,reflecting their advantages and shortcomings,and then conducting a truthful investigation of the existing problems and causes through on-campus interviews,which is used to verify the scientificity of the proposed views and countermeasures.First of all,use Citespace software to make a comprehensive review of the field of industrial design education,including history,current situation and future development trends.Secondly,the development of STEM education is discussed to identify the key factors that are suitable for the development of industrial design education.Then,according to the existing research results,the evaluation dimension table was designed,and the data collection,collation,summary and analysis of 7 universities including Tsinghua University and Jiangnan University were carried out.At the same time,combined with the content of the interview,the problems existing in China’s industrial design education are obtained: 1.The talent training mechanism is out of touch with society;2.The degree of attention paid to colleges and universities is different,and the professional development is uneven;3.The students’ design practice ability is not fully cultivated;4.The integration of production,education and research is superficial,and the reasons for the emergence of problems: 1.The concept is backward,and most colleges and universities focus on cultivating students’ design and expression ability;2.The education system and mechanism do not meet the training requirements;3.The education method is relatively backward;4.The educational conditions are limited;5.The social support is insufficient.Finally,based on the work done above and combined with the actual situation,five dimensions of improvement suggestions are put forward for industrial design education: 1.Establish the concept of science education;2.Improve educational conditions;3.Optimize education methods;4.Improve educational evaluation;5.Strengthen social support.The results show that the future of China’s industrial design education is not to be on par with foreign countries,but to build an industrial design education system with our own characteristics based on national conditions.This research helps us to gain an in-depth understanding of the development history and current situation of industrial design education in China,as well as analyze the future development trends.
